Glucosamine/Chondroitin

Hello everyone. I was diagnosed with PBC almost 3 years ago now. I'm on Urso, and my ALP and other liver enzymes are now all in the normal ranges. While I fully intend to ask my doctor, I'm wondering if any of you take glucosamine and/or chondroitin supplements for joints. I've noticed my shoulders are a bit "crackly and creaky" lately. My knees have been a little crunchy for a few years now. I know I'm getting older (turning 50 this year) and have been hard on my joints with years of playing soccer, but I'm hoping to keep playing as long as I can.

I know many folks who swear by taking these supplements. I know I did ask my ortho once about taking it. I have one knee replaced and another needs to be. He said that although it hasn't been proven to help, it surely doesn't hurt. Lately I have been trying to do knee strengthening exercises more than anything else. Let us know if you feel like it helps.

Thanks so much, Donna. I appreciate your insight. Any known concerns with taking this and having PBC?

Can you just send your 'liver' doc a message about it? They would be aware of your whole health history. I wouldn't think there would be but check to be sure.
