Years ago I had generic Urso and was quite poorly. I changed to Ursofalk and have been happy with it for over 20 years. Today the generic was dispensed and I was told it was the same and cheaper and with the state the NHS was in I should have it. I have a few other problems at the moment and the idea that I should take the generic to see if I became ill as before and then they would prescibe Ursofalk did not appeal to me at all. Has anyone else been given a guilt trip about Urso?

Hi It was my understanding that if a clinician specified a specific brand on the prescription the pharmacist was not able to substitute another preparation without 1st seeking authorisation?
Sorry to hear you’re having problems as well. I’ve been given a generic for a couple of years now despite shouting from the rooftops about it.
It’s false economy when you get a medication you can’t take and it ends up in the bin. I’ve lost count how many generics have ended up in the bin through that very practice.
There is definitely a difference , I’ve had three different generics as well, and can even get them all in one prescription.
I can tell immediately by the box , if they’ve given me the one I react to. I give it back and tell them to bin it ,so as I said false economy but try telling my GP surgery that they can’t grasp it. The pharmacy can’t order particular generics they get sent whatever is available so every few months I go through the process again and again.
Iam having a different problem this month, the chemist can’t even get the generic one, another week and I’ll be out of medication. I hope you get it sorted.
We have had the same experience this week at our pharmacy but thankfully not with my Urso acid. My daughter and I are both on the same contraceptive pill and I got the real he and she was given the generic one. I told them that str could not take it and they said we had to get our Drs surgery to put in the system the name of the specific medication we both take. My prescription has that and hers didn’t. The real one is clearly more expensive and not always in stock, but we’d rather order a month before needing it than being put in one that she has had side effects with in the past. Insist your Drs put on their system that all future prescriptions are the actual ones that work for you. No one deserves side effects due to cost cutting
This used to happen to me but my pharmacist asked that I get my GP to specify Ursofalk on my repeat prescription and it hasn’t happened since. There is just the occasional delay in getting all the tablets at once. Also I believe the Ursofalk brand isn’t at all expensive either.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. I did have Ursofalk on my presciption by my doctor but someone else from the practice telephoned me to say they thought I should be helping out the NHS by having the cheapest. I was rather stroppy and have my correct medication now.
Being in the US, many pharmacies here use different manufacturers for refilling Urso. I know many people have more problems with certain ones due to the 'fillers' some companies put in the product. Talking to the pharmacy can be very helpful when a certain manufacturer's medication doesn't agree with your body.
I take URSODOIL 300MG x 2 actually generic has worked for me since starting it 2016. I had one incident where pharmacy gave me brand type I ended up in ER so generic by Lannet works for me.Also different subject but after terrible itching from PBC disease for 6 years, I finally got relief from taking Rinvoq 15mg daily since December 2022 yay!!
