Good morning, this is definitely another flare. Consultant wants me to start Azathioprine when I go collect it today.

I was going to go on public transport but think its too risky but a friend said he will take me to pinderfields and bring me home. My gp unfortunately cannot prescribe azathioprine.

X alley

The good thing with going on azathioprine is that you may not need steroids the same. I have only been put on steroids twice since being on azathioprine. As i recall, the gp will be able to prescribe it normally after the initial red tape needed from consultant. Dont think the GP's can prescribe on their on but as your consultant is requesting then there should not be a problem . X

Yes,will probably reduce once under control and continue with maintenance dose. They can make you feel quite nauseous, something i am use to anyway and probably you are also. I was sick a few times at start but settled. Xx

Pack it in between your biggest meal. Not 1st or last.

It's done by your weight. I've been on 100, 50 and 75 over the years. At moment on 50mg after couple weeks steroid boost.

Afternoon everyone...take Azathioprine he said, I took 100mg yesterday and today the nausea was debilitating...over the past 9 years I have tried just about everything. The first medication they tried with me was Azathioprine and they had to take me off it for the same thing that happened overnight and today. I rang help line on British liver trust and they have been brilliant. They wondered why the consultant started me on such a high dose knowing my sensitivity to this medication in the past.

When I started them the first time, they started me on 25 mg because I was still on steroids as I am now...I should be started on 25 and build as my tolerance builds.

They had me on mercaptopurin for 8 years and decided to swap me to mycophenolate last year...that reaction was the same as this..couldn't function. I am going to ask to be put back on mercaptopurin..I only had 2 flares in 8 years with that and not debilitating nausea and diarrhoea like today.

Xx
