Diuretic for Ascites

I have quite a bit of fluid in my belly and my doctor has me on Aldactone. However the dosage seems too low to me and I have not started pee away my fluid. My doctor is being conservative which is good but I'm convinced that to feel better I need to get rid of fluid ASAP. Anyone else take a long time to get to a dosage that worked? Charlie in NC and frustrated.

Hello. May i know what the dosage os that your doc prescribed? My father has precisely the same issue and the doctor has prescribed a very low dosage of 25mg of Aldactone for my father as his creatinine is at 1.85 so they suspect his renal function can get impaired too.

I started at 25mg with no luck. Few days later up to 50mg - still no luck. Today I'm at 100mg.

We'll see. I've scheduled a large volume paracentesis - one way or another I've got to get rid of this belly fluid.

Hi I wonder if Spironolactone might be more effective for you. I’m not sure of course maybe your doctor had already decided other diuretics aren’t suitable for you? It really helped me. I also had frusemode. It is very effective but tough on the kidneys. Keep talking with your Gp. It’s very uncomfortable I remember well. Good luck.

I’ve probably spelt that wrongly.

Spironolactone is generic for Aldactone so I'm actually on spironolactone.
