Hi everyone, just a quick question. I know pbc can cause dry eyes and mouth but mine have never been as bad as they are at the moment. I have really itchy eyes which I use drops for but my mouth during the night has been so dry that I can't even swallow. My tongue was like a dried up piece of leather last night. Does anyone have the same problem, if so what do you use to help? Sorry, this was supposed to be a quick message🤔

Dry mouth
Hi Spanishnan, I too use eye drops (Hycosan Extra just a few drops in the morning does me for the day).
During the night I just drink water, always take a pint up to bed with me - believe you can get a “artificial saliva” 😳 but I can’t bear the thought of it 🤣. Best wishes 😘 x
I have Biotene prescribed by my specialist. It is in a tube and I keep it on my bedside table. When I wake up with my mouth stuck together I put some in and using my tongue spread it all over the inside of my mouth. This works for me.
I don’t know the answer but I’m seeing my specialist on the 5th and I’m going to ask so I will let you know what he says. I’m picking up some eye drops today that I’m to use 4-6 times a day as my eyes have really been aching badly and I feel like there’s something in it all the time. The optician said if you don’t deal with serious dry eye it can turn in to an infection-sorry gone off slightly! Take care xx
I had this dry mouth I use to chew gum it has now gone away
Hi Spanishnan. I was similar, and have now been diagnosed with Sjogrens syndrome. After seeing the Rheumatologist, I was given some medication (hydroxychloroquine) which has really helped. My eyes are still pretty dry, but I can make it through most nights without having to have a drink now! Good luck and hope you get sorted quickly!
This medication that you take - is it a pill or drops or what? I also have both dry eyes and mouth but just use eye drops and always have water with me. I haven't bothered to actually get diagnosed with Sjogrens because I thought there was no treatment except to treat the symptoms.
Hi Littysgirl
It is a tablet that I take once a day. It really has made a difference for me, but it is a pretty nasty drug & you have to have annual eye tests as it can build up in your eyes. Worth reading up about it before you make a decision.
Thanks Melm74, think I need a visit to my Dr. Started to itch again too.
i have dry mouth and eyes and can always relate it to diet (had too much sugar). The symptoms have always responded well to avoiding sugar and increasing amount of water I drink. Also keep my skin v well hydrated with oat and sunflower seed oil because the dryness is generalised with Sjogrens. Even so, mine may be a mild case and same remedy may not suit all. I’m very sorry you have the B itch back. I hope it’s a passing flare and you’re better soon x
Hi

Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
I keep a drink beside my bed and also face cream and Benadryl. It doesnt cure it but gives some relief so i can sleep
I was having dental issues including sensitivity. My dentist said my gums were very dry. They had me start using Biotene mouthwash and it has really helped with the condition.
I have the same issue. I use lubricant eye drops
(Sustained) 6 times during the day and eye ointment at night called Restore. This has helped so much! My ophthalmologist gave me those instructions. Both are over the counter. Also he said to wash eyelids and lashes every morning and night with hot water and baby shampoo. Take fish oil every day too to help with the dry eye issue.
