Sjogrens (dry eye/mouth)

I have Preclinical PBC, plus Scleroderma & Hypothyroidism and over the past couple of years have developed very dry eyes and my mouth has got a bit dry. I went for a ultrasound today on my neck, and it looks as if my saliva glands are being destroyed. Has anyone else had experience of this?

As well as AIH/PBC, I also have hypothyroidism and vitiligo. My eyes are a bit gritty and funny feeling at times but my saliva glands seem ok at the moment. I take it sjogrens and the destruction of the salivia glands are autoimmune as well? They do say once you have one you are more succeptable to others. The sharing disease! x

i have dry eyes that are now developing cataracts (I am only 50) and a very dry mouth. I have to permanently suck sweets or use a saliva spray. If i dont and am talking my tongue sticks to my mouth. I have not pushed for a diagnosis on this as I believe little is done anyway apart from they eye drops and mouth spray which I use sprays for both anyway.

i have just had my thyroid rechecked and its fine. :-) Am glad something is. :-)

I have dry eyes and mouth, but don't use anything. I drink lots of water and put up with it. I hate eye drops and don't know what else to do with a dry mouth. I can't be bothered with the doctors they don't understand!

Hi Tracy Lou

I find sucking something like fruit drops helps with the dry mouth.

Trouble is Tracylou i have developed cracks n my tongue that makes some food difficult to eat, and my eyes are so dry that they fill with gunge, so i dont have much choice but to use the eye drops.

What exactly is "preclinical PBC" if I may ask? Thank you.

Hi Christina,

I am AMA positive, ANA positive and i have elevated IGM. However my LFT's are normal, so i have been told that its preclinical? Thanks

Hi Inkedup

I have Sjogren's Syndrome too. Constantly chewing gum as a way to keep my mouth from drying up completely and carry a bottle of water with me too. Having major probs with blocked bile duct at the minute and constantly have the most sour taste in my mouth using lemon juice to try to combat it, as a friend who has the same problem told me it works - and it does. Have a lump on my left shoulder at the minute and also one on right arm, also developing on my neck. Has anyone else had this? All the best. (:-)

Hi there....I would suggest getting the lumps checked out soon, especially the one on the neck as those of us with Sjogrens have a higher risk of lymphoma

I do get lumps on my jawline which is probably blocked saliva glands, i guess yours is too far down to be that. Thanx for all the advice
