3 months on Fenafibrate Tricor

I wrote 3 months ago that I was placed on Tricor, a cholesterol lowering drug that has been known to lower liver enzymes, as I was a non responder to Urso. My alkphos. was over 1,000 about two years ago. I was around 600 when I began the Tricor along with Urso. My recent blood work was so much better, alkphos. was close to 200. I have had no side effects. I am going to continue with this therapy and hope my numbers continue to decrease.

I have several auto immune conditions two that require medication PBC & ITP. September 2018 I was prescribed Bezafibrate to be taken in conjunction with Ursodexacholic acid and I have a marked improvement in my liver readings. The improvement in my blood has been noted by my Haematologist and I expect that when I visit my Liver Specialist in September he will be pleased with the result. I hope that the result of my recent ultrasound will show no further deterioration in my liver. Good luck everyone the way ahead for me appears to be the medicines working in conjunction and I hope this information helps others.

I have had PBC for 20 years. I only developed ITP 3 years ago when I started displaying unusual bruising. I am being treated with Romiplostin injections self administered once every three weeks. When I was initially diagnosed my platelet level was 10 and I was given 5 day courses of immunoglobulin in conjunction with daily doses of 50mcg steroids but that treatment was only effective for approximately 10 days and abandoned after about 9 months. Azathioprine was prescribed but it didn’t agree with me and I was switched to Romiplostin. There may be a connection in me between the two conditions but it has never been definitely established. I hope your daughter keeps well and is managing her ailments.

Hi there and thanx for ur quick response. Yes my daughter diagnosed when just about off to college. - had IVIG and Pred. Now in 30s Had s child and was high risk but did well. Decided no Med. She had decided several years back. They are very low 10-20 and bruises - but hopefully will be ok as the meds can be questionable regarding side effects. Have u eaten any particular foods u find helpful / I know they say to stay away from certain foods for the platelet issue but don’t know how documented - doc had said the PBC and ITP on same chromosome. I have the PBC so interesting .. take care. If want to e mail separately..

Brilliant to hear fenofibrate is working for you, and after three months. That’s a good reduction in numbers too.

I was put on Bezafibrate a month ago I have to my first bloods in October so hope, it will show some improvement. I’am getting some dizziness that started at the same time , so i just started taking it at night, in the hope it doesn’t impact my day as it has been.

I have been on bezafibrate for 3 weeks because I am a non responder to Urso. Can anyone tell me if its ok to take at the same time as my Urso?

My physician, who specializes in liver disease, has told me to stay on URSO along with Tricor. He is currently heading up trial studies for Elafibranor and Seladelpar to treat PBC. Tricor is a similar drug. He did not want me to use Ocaliva, as I have been fortunate not to itch and Ocaliva has been known to cause itching. He believes that the fibrates are very promising for treating PBC!

My doctor didnt want me on Ocaliva as I already itch and didnt want to make it worse. Feeling a lot more hopeful now I have heard that others are having success with fibrates.
