New brand of Urso

Hi all,

I currently take 300 mg capsules of ursodiol and I usually receive an all white capsule labeled "WATSON 3159" which I tolerate with no problems. I picked up my prescription today and got a new brand. It is a light pink and white capsule labeled "LANNETT 1326". Anyone taking this and what's your experience been with tolerance?

Thanks!

I have been taking it for 2 years and have zero ill effects. It’s a generic, and very inexpensive, costs me only $3 per one month supply. I take 300mg , 3x per day. The only thing I found is that it has shellack in it, which is odd.

That's great to hear! I've read of so many people who can't seem to tolerate a brand change. The Watson capsule was also a generic and so inexpensive compared to what others on here often pay, so I'm thankful for that! I also take 900 mg/day. I noticed that the Lannett has way more inactive ingredients but most were dyes and of course the shellack..lol..I guess all that makes it extra pretty and shiny. I'm not usually sensitive, so I'm hoping I'll do fine with it.😊

How do you get that deal?

It depends on your insurance coverage, but generic is usually much cheaper. My plan offers a 90-day supply for $36 at a retail pharmacy or $24 through the mail. If I had chosen to go with the name brand, my out of pocket would have been way higher💰💰Sounds like claygi gets a better deal on hers. Really just depends on what your policy provides. Might be worth readingthe details of your policy because I didn't know I could get mine through the mail at a cheaper price until I read it recently.

I concur on all you’ve said, lots of inactive ingredients, ridiculous really. However, I’ve not suffered at all from taking this brand and I’m saving my employer high drug costs.

Wow this is very timely. I have been using Mylan brand 300mg capsules. Last time the pharmacy said they couldn't get Mylan and they gave me Lannett. When I started URSO 3 years back now I had trouble with some of the brands. Maybe it was just the URSO that my body was getting used to and it had nothing to do with fillers, I don't know.. and actually I don't care.. I felt like I tolerated Mylan best so why mess with it! There are drs and pharmacists that might give us "an eyeroll" when we say that certain fillers don't seem to "agree with us".. But hey- let them eye roll.. I have seen enough women here report the same problems. I believe US.... not them. thanks for sharing

I'm a little concerned about changing brands, but I've never had an intolerance to any kind of medicine. BUT...if I notice a difference I'll definitely be asking to go back to my original brand🙄😁

HealthyChik...I took that one, 300 mg. I was allergic so my dr wouldn’t chance the tablet. That’s when I started ocaliva

Oh no! Sorry you experienced that. What kind of symptoms did you have with the Lannett?

I had sporadic itch in different places but always stopped. After about 8 days I woke up with huge whelts on my rear. Went away. Next morning same thing inside my thighs. Called Dr & he said stop.

Thanks for the info. I'm usually not sensitive to anything but Urso is the first drug I've taken long term, so anything could happen. I just wanted an idea of what to look for. Thanks again and I hope the Ocaliva is working well for you.

Don’t worry. Ocaliva brought levels down quickly. Not sure yet if it’s controlling fibrosis. Thanks!😊

It's good to hear you've had no problems with it and that it is working👍🏼I take 3 pills/day (900mg). I've taken the Lannett for just a few days and so far I can't tell a difference🙌🏼

And sorry about your itch! I haven't experienced that yet but have the deepest empathy for people who do. I often feel like a time bomb.. like it may be coming any day
