Just a query, just collected my repeat prescription for Urso, have been given white tablets instead of the orange Ones I’ve had recently. Also they are manufactured by 2 different companies.
This will mean I have 3 different types of manufactured tabs until the orange ones are finished.
Is this normal. I’m sure I read somewhere about manufacturers using different ‘fillers’

When I first started URSO I had one generic manufacture brand that seemed to bother me. Then when I had a different manufactured capsule it was "okay". So I have no way of knowing if it was a difference in fillers or that I was just having symptom flare ups in my digestion etc.. I don't know- BUT I decided to stick with the manufacturer that seemed to agree with me. Who needs any added issues with PBC if we can avoid it right?
Funny that you should bring this up because right now the URSO I am used to is on back order at the manufacturer until second week of May. So now I am going to be using a different manufacturer for a few weeks. Hopefully should be no problem. I'm going to take them with an open/positive mind and assume the best until proven otherwise!
I have always used a generic brand of ursodiol since I was diagnosed last summer. After January 1st insurance company's formularies often change and that caused me to get a prescription manufactured by a different company. So far, I cannot tell the difference and it seems to be working since my LFTs are very much improved. Hope your new one is well tolerated as well.😊
I don't blame you for being a bit concerned. I was too when my brand changed, but luckily it worked out. If I have any new symptoms or my lab values make a significant change, rest assured I'll be asking for my old brand back😃
To avoid these situations, ask your doctor to write on the prescription a specific brand. It doesn't have to be "brand name", like Forte. I always get Urso 500 mg pills from Actavis. It is a generic brand. But, because my doctor writes in the prescription notes - Use only Activis manufacturer - this is what I always get from my pharmacy. Removes completely all inconsistencies. It doesn't affect the price. The price is always the same for the generic Urso.
My husband was specified a certain medication after kidney transplant and had to change because apparently a pharmaceutical company burned down! I take urso and recently the brand was changed and was told it was down to Brexit 😂
In my Scandinavian country, I get new brands every time, since medical insurance only covers the cheapest one. If I want another brand, I have to pay the difference myself. For me, all brands works well sofar.
Hopefully it’ll be fine.. I found the capsules gave me an allergic skin reaction so always stick to white round tablets that come in a tub... it was the filler or coating of the capsule that was my problem.
Hi, when I was first diagnosed 18 months ago was given a very small capsule ( don’t remember the manufacturer, wish I did ) and was perfect on them. I have had many variations of Urso since and always have problems. I would say if you find one that suits you stick with it.
I was issued yellow ones after white ones for years, and now back to white ones. I asked the pharmacist about the yellow ones but he said there is no appreciable difference. I have been taking them for about a month now with no adverse reactions.
I think I am one of the lucky ones P13jne . I suffer the itch which is mitigated by prescription medicationbut after a recent specialist appointment I am told my numbers are very good. I would wish the same for us all.
Hi I was having the orange box the decided to have the tablets. They could not get the tablets in the orange box and gave me white. More side effects with my white box and depression. Have gone back to the capsule but to normal now. Just monitor yourself and see how you go.
