PBC and travel insurance

I’ve recently been diagnosed with liver disease and PBC and am travelling abroad from UK this summer. Do I need to declare my condition and can anybody recommend a decent supportive travel insurer? Thanks

I think you need to declare it but you can get travel insurance and state you don't want it covered in your insurance but then you won't be covered for anything that happens that is related to your condition. I just took out annual insurance for my partner and me with a company called Alpha travel insurance and declared my PBC. This was after getting quotes from various companies and they came out cheapest and very reasonable I think.

I think it’s best to declare it and cover yourself. I got a great quote from boots.

Hi there. I've just taken travel insurance out with traveltime.co

I declared pbc and my husband's high blood pressure both controlled with medication and got cover for 34 pound. Absolutely fab. Hope this helps you 😊

I have been abroad several times after being diagnosed with PBC in 2014 I don’t state that I have it and don’t see the need Tom I just live my life as normal and forget I have it, the Ursofalk does it’s job

Hi I get my insurance from World First. As my GP says if you don’t declare and you develop for example appendicitis they would run routine bloods and your LFTs would come back raised and they would say you didn’t declare anything and would use to get out of paying 😊

Thank you all for your advice. I’ll contact my current insurer and see what they say, but you’ve given me some options to explore

hI dEBORAH are you sorted now? I rang Boots and they will cover all my conditions but would charge an extra £100 excess if I needed to claim for anything related to them inc PBC. We got multitrip for £70 for the both of us

Thank you for that. As a family, we have had annual travel insurance for years so I started with that company who confirm I am covered for everything except PBC and liver /cirrhosis issues. I will pull my finger out and give Boots a call as a number of other people have told me they are good. To be honest I spend so much time worrying about my condition that I keep forgetting to do some of the important things, like sort this insurance. You have given me the kick up the bum to stop burying my head!!!!!
