Burning eyes

Hi everyone I have a question....I have always had dry eyes but since I have been on Urso my eyes start burning anytime they get “wet”. Crying, yawning, or using my eye drops. Has anyone experienced this? Not sure if it’s something I should go see the doc about or just wait for my apt in April.

I am not aware that this is an urso related issue. I doubt your GI or liver doctor can really figure it out. Probably should go see an ophthalmologist if it continues to bother you.

Hopefully others more knowledgeable on this will chime in for you.

Dry eye is a very common condition. Use heavy lubricant drops or ointment at night. A lighter lubricant during day time. You can use eye drops as many times as you wish. Take fish oil pills daily, at least 2 a day. Dry eyes and dry mouth are among symptoms of PBC. I use eye drops several a day, or as soon as I feel my eyes feel scratchy. Some days, I use them only twice, but, most days days 3-6 times/day, it depends. You can talk to your GI, but, there is very little she can do. To make sure nothing else is going on, you should see an ophthalmologist.

Good luck!

Hi. As aforementioned, dry eyes is very common. However, just like you, I sometimes have a burning sensation when my eyes are watery for whatever reason. On top of that, I am wearing contacts. In my case, it is not Urso-related. Been to all my doctors, gastroenterologist and hepatologist included and they both concluded it has nothing to do with my medication. I went to an opthalmologist and it's all about my eyes, they were sensitive before and even more so with PBC. But again, that's in my case.

I too have had the burning eyes. My dry eyes started after starting on Urso. I can only wear my lenses for about half the day. Use drops frequently throughout the day.

I also have my eyes burning a lot, especially in the mornings, when I find it difficult to open my eyes. My ophthalmologist said to be Blepharitis (another autoimmune syndrome for my collection: Hashimoto's thyroiditis, PBC, GH insufficiency, seborrhea dermatitis). And I can not say that there is a correlation with Ursacol use: I started using it in 2009 and the burning symptoms only started in 2017. Actually I had not even remembered this possibility.

Good luck!

I have trouble with itchy eyes and when u seen my optomolgist he said this is related to PBC just like all the other itching I'm experiencing. He has me using a couple of Systane eye drops one regular lubricant and another gel lubricant. They give me relief but eyes continue to ictch daily.
