Pain relief after surgery

Hi, I’m new to this, I have surgery booked next month, and I’m worried what pain relief will be best for me after, all the codines give me pancreatitis, morphine oramorph and oxycodone escalate my liver pain, and I’ve been told not to take paracetamol because of the pbc so I’m getting a bit worried

Your surgeon along with the hepatologist input can prescribed something safe for you.

Hi Chickadee69

At the time of your appointment raise these concerns with your specialist, have those medicines that cause you problems written down so you don't forget anything. Sometimes medication for things other than PBC have to be considered, especially if it will be short term use, and decisions balanced against quality of life but as ninjagirlwebb has said the hepatologist will be best placed to advise you.

Thank you, can’t wait to see him the last time I saw him was when I was diagnosed in sept last year so of course I wasn’t prepared to fire those important questions, thank you ☺️

My liver doc said Tylenol is ok as long as I don’t go over his recommendation

Is Tylenol the same as paracetamol?

I've been told by my consultant that I can take paracetamol/ibuprofen for short term use. I have Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (bile duct pressure) and anything stronger than these cause intense pain so I'm dreading anything that requires stronger painkillers!

This is my concern, oxycodone and oramorph absolutely cripples me, I have been told to steer clear from the paracetamol nothing said about ibuprofen, we will see on the 30th what the hepatologist says

Fingers crossed for you that you will never have the pain strong enough that requires stronger meds
