Can anyone say what meds we can use. I have read numerous posts, but everyone seems to have different ideas. ie. Paracetamol, ibroprufen, tramadol , co-codamol. Have read yes and no for all of them. Do we really know?

What meds for pain relief with PBC
I stay away from Ibuprofen and Tramadol. Tramadol can be nasty. I know several people who get very sick from it, me being one, but those who can tolerate it say it works well. Don't know Co-codcamol but presume the Co means Codeine which can give you side effects if you are sensitive to it. Paracetamol is the only one I use now, but then again I don't have serious pain in spite of having Scleroderma, PBC, Sjogren's and Anaemia.
I think it depends how much liver damage you have. I was scared to take anything until doc and specialist told meto be realistic.. .. there was no point suffering. If I was in pain it was better to take pain relief just to watch quantity.... speak to the professionals.
My specialist won't give me any pain relief so I went to the GP and he gave me tramadol which I use sparingly. I am stage 4 PBC though.
It is mainly due to the liver not being able to break down the drug. Sometimes panadol works better though!
Hi . I take Paracetamol and Tramadol daily..
I can't take Tramadol it does awful things to my head!!!! Just take Paracetamol 2 with breakfast and 2 before dinner. Then my GP has given me Colofac tablets 135mg to take for abdominal colic pain. I only take one occasionally when I get the cramping pain and it works very quickly. As others have said, unless you have serious reactions to a painkiller thee is no need to suffer. Airlie asked my age, I am 72.
