Newly diagnosed - Urso & side effects.

Hi all

I joined in June after my GP suspected PBC from my blood test results. Fast forward 4 months after consultant appointments, a liver biopsy and a fibroscan, I was officially diagnosed with PBC last week, so I'm now a proper member of the club!

However, I have a question - re Urso and side effects! I only started the Urso on Saturday (1 500mg twice a day for the first 3 months) so I'm only on day 3, but woke up this morning with the most random back pain. I was expecting upset tummy, diahorrea, sickness, etc (which I do have, but only quite mild), but is back pain something any of you experienced on starting Urso? if it persists, I will contact my doctor, but just wondering if this happened to anyone else?

Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi,

Welcome "officially" to the club 😀 According to rxlist.com the common side effects of Urso are listed below.

Hopefully over time your body will get used to the URSO.

it took me a couple months to adjust.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Common Side effects of URSO ( per rxlist.com)

stomach upset or pain,

nausea,

diarrhea,

constipation,

dizziness,

tired feeling,

back pain,

hair loss,

headache,

fever,

chills,

body aches,

flu symptoms,

runny or stuffy nose,

cough, or

cold symptoms.

Tell your doctor if you have unlikely but serious side effects of Urso include:

weakness,

swelling of the ankles or feet,

increased thirst or urination,

signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat), or

easy bleeding or bruising.

Hi Rachie34

Yes, welcome to the club you didn't want to be a member of! I agree with Eileen that medication side effects that you have early on, often disappear. I had the common gut symptoms at first, but I take it now (also 2x 500) with no problems at all. Probably only time will tell whether your back pain is connected to Urso.

May I suggest that if it becomes apparent you're experiencing any side-effects at all, go back to a smaller dose and phase it in very gradually. You may be on it for life, so there's no need to worry about taking a smaller dose in the early stages.

Very best of luck, and let us know how you get on.
