Has anyone ever taken the 6 MP drug I was just given that from my doctor if so how was your response? I had to take special blood tests to determine if I was a good candidate

I have PBC with overlap of AIH

Mercaptopurine (6-MP), sold under the brand name Purinethol among others, is a medication used for cancer and autoimmunediseases. Specifically it is used to treat acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis.

Good morning...hope this Monday finds you feeling better. I was curious as to why you were prescribed this drug, as it its for cancer related issues, a chemotherapy type of drug. Have you read the online side effects and precautions? Appears the doctor may not have, as one of the huge precautions is liver disease. Hope you are not dealing with cancer. If so, do some research on wheat grass therapy for cancer.

Let us know how you progress...M

Because I have PBC with overlap of autoimmune immune Hepatitis he did some kind of special tests that had to be sent that to Prometheus and also a test for tuberculosis to make sure which of course I didn't have and now I'm going to be taking 500 / in the morning and 500 at night like I normally do and 50 mg of 6mp and 20 mg predisone and the second week 15 3rd week 10mg and then blood test and then if my numbers are good I weed off off the prednisone and stick with that 6mp and urso my doctor is pretty good so I think he wants to be aggressive 6mp is also for autoimmune diseases

Oh darlin'...you are in my prayers. That's lots to deal with and those meds sound terrible. I'm allergic to URSO. I have been ok although my LF remain at a stable high most of the time. Sounds like you trust your practitioners. Let me know how you do

I know I stopped taking the predisone and the URSO and then my numbers went way up if you read 6mp you will see it for autoimmune diseases not just cancer I don't know I'll see how it goes and if I don't like how I'm feeling cuz I didn't like how I'm feeling on the predisone I'll stop

Are you already on Urso for the PBC? If so, does this work okay alongside the new medication? I would run it all past the advisors at the 'PBC Foundation' - see link to website at top of page.

Yuck. I have PBC/AIH overlap too. I took 6 MP and 40mg of prednisone for 6 months. I developed neutropenia and had to stop taking it. I was also confined to my house for 2 weeks and if I absolutely needed to go anywhere, I had to wear a mask. I gained 40 lbs, my hair broke off to the point I had to cut 10 inches off. I had mouth ulcers, horrible nausea and vomiting and fatigue. I will never take those medications again. I don't care if I die. I felt so bad that I decided then and there that quality of life is much better than quantity.
