I'm a 31 year old mum of four from London and was recently diagnosed with PBC last month. Since then things have moved quote fast and my liver specialist want a to put me on medication as my liver function seems to get higher with every blood test.
The only problem is I have a history of an eating disorder and I have been told weight gain is associated with this medication? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who takes Ursdo (Think that's how you spell it) and what their side effects are x

You've come to the right place. Read all you can on here, you'll learn a lot. I'm sorry about your diagnosis with PBC. Especially being so young and having 4 young ones to look after along with it. ❤
PBC usually is a slow progressing disease. For some it can progress faster. We're all different. URSO has caused some weight gain in some, others not at all. Others still, have lost weight because of changing their diet due to the disease. So again everyone is different.
I'm sorry you struggle with other issues as well. Get help for your eating disorder. PBC needs to take center stage for a while. Giving in to your eating disorder will only weaken your immune system further and auto immune diseases like PBC run in packs. You'll make it easier for other AI's to surface. Takecare of yourself. Google liver friendly diet and follow that. Or google foods that build up your immune system and add those into your diet daily. Try to balance out your immune system.
I know it all seems overwhelming... give yourself time to wrap your head around this all. But inbetween.... Please take care of yourself. Eat right, listen to your doctor and educate yourself about PBC right here on this forum. Join the foundation above and continue to ask questions. Great group of women here and a few men too. Many will pipe in soon with advice and encouragement. ❤
Hi I was diagnosed Christmas this year with pbc, and been on the medication since, I've not had no side effects or weight gain, but I think it's only 5lb,in the first year, with the usro, as I was told try not to worry or stress it makes you feel worse.
Hello Newbie, welcome to our very exclusive PCB club.
I have taken urso for 4 years and weigh less now than then, mostly due to change of diet. You must eat sensibly - low fat, low sugar, low processed, all the usual things, drink plenty of water and you can forget about the weight.
You may feel tired so pace yourself, not easy for young mothers but you must try. Teach your kids to do as much as possible for themselves. This will lift your burden and they will benefit by being competent and independent.
Join the PCB Foundation as they have up to date accurate information and keep in touch with this group who will help and support you. Good luck. Big hug from Diane
