Hi everyone. I have decently been dx with PBC and am looking to find out some guidance on dietary changes that might be beneficial to my liver. As far as I can tell (through my research online) I should be eating lots of cruciferous veggies, getting rid of processed foods in general, using honey instead of sweetener and limiting my carbs/ wheat. Have I missed anything obvious? thanks in advance x

I'm also newly diagnosed and my Dr said no dietary restrictions or changes were necessary, just carry on.
I however looked up an anti inflammatory diet and follow it. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, less processed foods, less refined carbs, less red meat, less fats. I cut out soda and just drink water, coffee and a bit of tea. I feel better. I'm on Prednisone for the AIH overlap part of my diagnosis and I feel amazing actually. I'm still tired and I still need a nap most days, but overall I feel more normal than I have in a long time.
I trust my doctor. I believe her when she says I could just do what I was doing, but, I'm doing absolutely everything I can to be as healthy as possible and eating better will not hurt me so why not?
Agree with iamtheglue. I’m not strictly following an AIP diet but I am thinking about it and currently avoiding ( basically eliminated) dairy, eating way more plants, and avoiding processed food and sugar. Have quickly learned to love coconut milk and almonds and any roasted vegetables!
As long as your liver is fine you should not be worried about diet. Just remmber you don't have normal liver anymore so be cautious what ever you eat..people live normal life after diagnosed but there are always bad side kicks from pbc which really sucks..I have hypothyroid, reactive hypoglycemia and may be sjogrens as well tho it has not deter my lifestyle..I eat healthy, I exercise and I still drink socially and I'm still alive after 3 years of pbc😁😁.. don't get stress be strong, bless full and live your life the fullest.. welcome to pbc foundation!!
My consultant advised that i eat plenty of mushrooms, nuts and drink green tea and water. He advised not to any citrus fruit or anything with a high acid content, no refined products or processed foods. My diet has changed quite dramatically. However, my hair is still falling out and it is very thin, my skin itches like crazy, i have a poor [non-existent appetite] , my tummy still swells up and the soles of my feet still burn and the tiredness steals my afternoons.
I read citrus fruit with deep pigmentation is good to eat, plums, peaches, fresh cherries, etc. research liver friendly foods.
