Well thank you for your encouragement. I literally tried a small grain of urso last night and will do that amount until I get a confirmation from hepatologist. I got many of the effects you all describe especially intestinal burn. My appetite is not great and i feel veey bloated and my gastroparesis seems flared up. A little nauseated. I usually am very hungry but last 3 days appetite is poor, but i eat. I feel increase of liver discomfort with bit of urso, but I did feel more energetic and happy after first dose, hmm? I felt very drowsy when I took. Hoping night 2 is better. This is strong med. can i take any antiacids for the burn and Gas-x?

Hi Pbcornot

The URSO you take will have been prescribed relative to your weight. This information can be found in the patient information leaflet (PIL). When first starting I believe it is best to spread the dose across the day and take with food. When I first started on URSO I took Omeprazole but taking antacids can reduce the good vitamins getting into your system. When the appetite is not good it may help if you eat little and often, the old saying of grazing through the day helped me at the beginning. I now take all my URSO with dinner around 6.30 p.m. so that everything has time to settle before I go to bed. A warm hot water bottle or warmed wheat bag around the liver area can be soothing but as it is a topical application the soothing feeling does not last long.

Hope this is of some help to you.

best wishes

Yes, you can take antacids and gas pills. Only anything with aluminum, like, mylanta or mailbox, you need 1-2 hours between Urso and those antacids. Any other antacids or gas pills you can take together with urso. Tums are ok to take.

Best to you!

It's Ocaliva that you can't take Omeprazole concomittantly with (but can take other classes of similar meds). Hope it goes well with the Urso. I usually get lots of side-effects with medications and unusual ones and literally had no side-effects with the Urso. Hope it goes well with you. I'm on a higher dosage of Urso for my weight. Per my GI specialist, I take my Urso with meals spread throughout the day.

You're welcome. I worry about side-effects too so I understand. I was supposed to start Ocaliva and Prolia (a 6 month lasting injection for osteoperosis which is PBC-related) but not a good idea to start two at once. I did get bad side-effects from the Ocaliva but not Urso. I'm still reluctant to try the Prolia because if you get s/e, it's in your system for about a year.

Best of luck with the Urso. I found it totally bland in terms of s/e and hope the same for you.
