Fibroscan: I have a fibroscan scheduled for... - PBC Foundation
Fibroscan
There's nothing to it takes less than 5 minutes. They normally tell you the score straight away, my last one was 16.3. Had about 4 done in the last 5 years . Hope this helps
My PBC was picked up 17 years ago by accident but I had my first fibroscan a couple of months ago when I moved to a new hospital. The practitioner had a small hand held machine which is put against the liver. I felt a small prod a couple of times and that was it. I was told the score and what the normal range was.
Obviously for 17 years I was quite happy not knowing!
I had one my score was 21.3 stage 4 cirrhosis, my dr didn't believe it, but I did. After a transjugular biopsy it showed I have stage 4 cirrhosis. My fibroscan was right.
My result was 19.4 and i had an ultrasound straight after it and i have stage 4 fibrosis
I first had an ultrasound that showed cirrhosis, then the subsequent fibroscan gave a result of 30.
The fibroscan isn't much different to an ultrasound in so far as the procedure itself goes, the only difference I experienced was that with the fibroscan I had a slight 'thumping' sensation as the hand held monitor was moved over my liver area. There was no 'after affect' that I was aware of.
I had a scan with a score of 21 which indicated cirrohses. My hepatologist did not think I was cirrohetic so he ordered a biopsy. It showed fibrosis stage 2 with several samples taken.
I am scheduled for a fibroscan September 14th. My GI says it is becoming more common now than a biopsy, to show amount of scarring in the duct. Good luck to you!
My liver ultrasound was perfectly normal. Now we have to look at the ducts.
