Hi cavi didn't think fibroscan could detect scaring. It does read the stiffness of the liver. My last fibroscan score last was 16.3. Us scan shows scaring but no chirrosis. But when asked doctor when I filled out travel insurance forms I should definitely put down I have fibrosis. There is a cutoff score for chirrosis for pbc and think it around 17. If you have active inflammation in the liver the score will be higher.

Hope this helps

My fibroscan was 8.4. Zero scarring in liver & mild fibrosis in duct(s)

Isn't fibrosis scaring

Yes. But from what I understand, it doesn’t affect liver as long as inflammation can be controlled & contained in the ducts. I believe they say once it cannot be controlled, it will then move into the liver. That’s info from my Dr. Some drs may vary.

kimohoebe...my Dr gave me a copy of fibroscan. He wrote at the bottom “evidence of mild fibrosis “. And said liver is good. So that’s all I have to go on. 😊

I think you probably right but being classed as a nonresponder to the uso the inflammation in my liver been active for the last 5 years, it's only recently it's under control because I'm on a clinical trial. Will ask for another fibroscan soon because my score was 13.5 then a year later was 16.3 would like it done while there's no inflammation there.

Cabo...have you by chance looked at fibroscan score chart? That may help in answering your question.

Good idea to get fibroscan once a year

My GI says will do fibroscan yearly to check slow or fast progression.

Hi,it seems there are different interpretations on fibroscan scores..mine was 13 last year and scarring only found when I had an endoscopy later that year and since then an ultrasound showed it up too. With PBC the liver doesn't repair itself but there is a lot that can be done foodwise to prolong it...all the best
