Has any heard that you should not get your hair colored when you have PBC? Or that getting your hair colored can cause PBC? I read this somewhere and was just wondering.

I read that too. I believe that more people including men would have it if that was the case. You have to still live and be happy and comfortable. You can cheat and have a piece of cake and have an off day and cheat with certain foods that we should be avoiding if you're choosing a healthy diet. But really you should be asking your doctor. The only thing that I don't cheat with is liquor and I still haven't had a big fat piece of double chocolate cake yet. But it's only been since late January for me.
I know for sure to ask my Dr. Thank you for responding. Hope you doing well today.
Be happy and do what you can to feel beautiful. I did read the hair color can be a factor. I will see me Dr. Tomorrow at the Mayo Clinic. I will ask him too I also have to ask him about getting a hep A and hep B vaccine. Thank you for your post. I have been doing chemical treatments to my hair for many years. I also went to beauty school and worked in a salon and a nail salon many, many years ago.
Hope all goes well at your Appt. Can you keep me updated what they say about the vaccines and hair color. Thanks
Jennyhadenough, can you let us know what he says about the hair color please ?
Yes of course. There's henna that can be used. Here's the thing with henna. You can't have any other service in yur hair or you will lose it. That means henna has to be used on virgin hair. At our age nothing is virgin anymore. Lol. Ha ha. But back to a serious note. There's hair stains but you can only go from light to dark can't go from dark to light and color won't lift color.
Do you have a update on the hair color? Thanks!
I do not. I have not been to my follow up yet. I go the 28th
Do you have a update? Thanks!Grey hairs are driving me nuts.
My Husband and I were having this conversation a few days ago when I bought some Hair Dye.Looking forward to some responses to this.
I remember reading about hair dye ages ago and what I remember is that it's very specific chemicals in certain hair dyes (not all) that may be a problem and adversely affect the liver. But the occasional hair dye cheers me up & gives me a boost - provided I get the colour right!
Nail varnish can also cause problems - my mum was allergic to it and it took years to discover that nail varnish was the cause of streaming eyes and headaches, made worse because she wore glasses and her painted nails were frequently going up to her face to touch & adjust the glasses.
Im a licensed cosmetologist & honestly think this is nuts!! We do read a lot of things that are "off" about this disease. But, I have heard that there is a link with some chemicals in automotive paint & body work materials that can effect things. Back in my early twenties I, myself done auto body paint & body work. I've only ever met one person with this disease & the one thing we had in common was auto body work. Strange isn't it. I was actually in a cosmetology academy when I was diagnosed. But I had had it for awhile before hand because I was at stage 2. This will certainly be a interesting find. Looking forward to hearing what the Dr say.
The thing we have to be careful about is that everything goes through our liver - all those chemicals. If you do some research some dyes are ok. Also think about hi-lights. There are also some polishes that ok. It's decisions we have to make.
I do think that this a last resort explanation for PBC in that it mainly effects females so hair dye, nail varnish are easy to appropriate to causing it. Millions of females dye their hair and use nail varnish without any side effects.
It seems to be one of many possible contributing factors. I read a survey had shown that 50% of women with pbc had regularly used hair dye, personally I wonder about potters clay dust or glaze powder, which I was in contact with for many years at work. It does seem to be a strong theory that some kind of environmental toxin might be a trigger, along with the genetic factor, and some kind of infection.
I've never heard of it. I've been dying my hair for a few years and it hasn't caused me any more problems. I was diagnosed with PBC a long time before I started dying it. Would be interested to know if there's any truth in it.
Along with acrylic nails, or gel nails. There are SO MANY possibilities of what can cause it or what can't
You will read all sorts, but I think the truth is they don't know what the trigger is for PBC. ( if anyone has heard differently I would love to know) And if it were hair dye how would the reasearch stack up when there will be people with PBC whom have never used it. ..
I read only yesterday that a childhood tonsillectomy and smoking were the triggers. I was diagnosed 8 years ago and have read: hair dye, nail varnish, smoking, the water, strong chemicals, female hormones, a retro virus, and urine infections.
I personally over the last eight years have thought all of them were the cause of my PBC at some point. But the experts don't know the cause so I still use hair dye I always ask myself if I stopped using/doing it , would it cure my PBC.
The only thing I stopped was smoking, as advised by my consultant, she said it can speed up the progression (or that's what she told me maybe to scare me into quitting and it worked ) I've not smoked since that day.
Congratulations on not smoking. That is awsome!!
I liked this article on haircolouring and liver disease with some recommendations for which brands of dye when you have liver disease and why
liversupport.com/hair-color...
Interesting article thank you for posting.
Very interesting!
I just had mine done... never heard of it but have not asked..... I know there was a possible link between magenta color and bladder cancer but never heard of liver issues
I've never dyed my hair and here I am. Lol. Hope that helps somehow
