Being a hairdresser was my worst nightmare losing my hair! I tried everything on the market! I retired

10 years ago. I accepted that my hair would not grow back and have been wearing a wig for at least 12 years. I look and feel 10 years younger and always have compliments about how nice my hair looks.

hello annscot

Do you find wigs hot? I tried one a while ago before my hair thinned more but in a small room within 2 minutes I could feel my body temperature rising and the "itch" worsening.

Do you have any coping techniques?

appreciate any advice

Yes I do find wigs hot and when tired the itch is worse but I have to cope as the other alternative is going bald! I do wear caps when at home. I am now completely bald with a little fluff at back of head. Of course I would rather have my own head if hair. I always say to myself that there are a lot of people worse off than me. I am 75 and get on with daily life with a positive attitude.

Drug, I haven’t found any treatments for PBC hair loss myself so I would be grateful to hear about any, too. But what I have found is that the right haircut makes a massive difference in how my hair looks. I have curly hair. I had it very short (1 1/2”) because I though it looked too thin otherwise but I’ve let it grow down to chin length now and it looks hugely better AND thicker. Good luck!

I have just been diagnosed with Lichen Planopilarius and am one week into a steroid shampoo prescribed by the dermatologist. I was also found to have low zinc and now take a loading dose and after one month go to a maintenance prescription.

I had been using biotin shampoo and also separately coconut oil which had been suggested as working for hair loss but to no avail.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with a wig hairdresser who also has scarves and hats.

It may be worth checking with your doctor as from my experience not everything is PBC or medication related.

best wishes

I’ve been trying collagen powder as I read it’s good for hair, nails and tissue strength as the collagen reduces naturally as age increases I have noticed an improvement in all areas. I have to confess although my hair is thinning it’s not to drastic so I’m hoping I have helped it before too much damage is done. Main reason for trying it was for internal tissues really

How long do you have to take collagen powder before you notice any benefits?

Guess you have to wait for new hair to grow! I noticed a difference in my skin and nails already. My main reason for taking it is for tissue repair as collagen reduces as we age. So it’s multi use I hope

Is it the pbc or the Urso that causes hair loss my hair is thinning already from plaquenial and not on Urso yet ?

I noticed my hair loss as soon as I started taking the Ursodiol. I lost a significant amount at first and then it subsided. Now it seems to go in spurts. It’s almost cyclical. Where I lose for a while, and then it seems to come back. I have never lost all of my hair but, it does go through cycles of thinner and falling out. Thankfully so far, mineContinues to come back. Wishing the same for you. Feel good.
