Urso/UDCA and Omeprazole

Hi, I was just given Omeprazole to take once daily (mornings) - is it ok to take it at the same time as my Urso, or does there need to be a gap?

Good morning Valravn

I take all my URSO with dinner to reduce gastric reflux problems and take Gaviscon as needed. I was prescribed Omeprazole but had to stop as I developed B12 deficiency.

Here is a link from NICE about interactions with other medications, however URSO is not listed. bnf.nice.org.uk/interaction...

Here also is a link to the NHS about side effects of Omeprazole, please scroll down to note the long term side effects which may and I repeat may be something your doctor will want to take note of.

When I was prescribed Omeprazole I took it away from other medications.

best wishes

Thank you butterflyEi for your kind reply!

After reading the Omeprazole leaflet, I actually went to the NICE drug interaction site as I've used it before, but just like you I fpund this combination missing. Then I searched the net for clues or answers elsewhere, incl. the NHS website, but didn't find any there either. I guess I will apply the 2 hours gap just to be on the safe side!

I am currently waiting for blood tests for a bug that might be causing my heartburn - I don't believe Urso is the culprit as I take my daily dose in two goes, in the morning and in the evening and it never bothered me for 5 years I've been taking it. Everything else as a reason should, hopefully, be just temporary and, fingers crossed, I won't need the Omeprazole long term... but I will definitely watch out for the side effects and ask for the B12 to be monitored if I do - thank you for the warning and advice!

I take the omerprazole in the morning before I eat, I then take the urso with what I am eating, so far I haven't had any problems.

You should space it, at least one hour. Take the Omeprazole before you eat. Urso with food.

I have done so for several years with no known problems.

True: I do wait for two hours after my morning meal to take the antacid.
