Colon cleanse
Hi Kandiepat, is this colon cleanse capsules or something you drink, or is it a colonic procedure?
Detoxing the body is a great idea, I think. As long as it is done in a way that does not stress the liver, digestive system, or the immune system. Taking a lot of supplements, powders, or a lot of herbs can create extra work for a liver that is already struggling to do its job, so I would use judgement there and err on the side of giving the liver a rest. Herbs tend to be more gentle that synthetic medications, but herbs can also be just as strong and damaging at times. It depends on the type of herb and the strength.
Colonics are supposed to be good at removing toxins from the body, which might help the liver and digestive system by supporting and speeding the detoxifying process. But, keep in mind that any substance introduced can be absorbed by the rest of the body through the wall of the colon. Colonics or coffee enemas are an integral part of the Gerson Therapy, which is a well known, holistic, detoxifying treatment that has shown remarkable results in healing cancer. It's controversial, though. The medical community typically regards it as quackery.
Personally, I detox by consuming fresh juices, warm water with lemon and ginger, and a plant based diet. I like to use the dry heat sauna, too. After a detox period, I reintroduce a variety of healthy foods.
