Twitchy liver

Hi all, does anyone else get a twitchy or fluttery feeling in their liver? I've recently started noticing this, particularly if I eat fatty foods. It doesn't hurt, it's just a bit annoying and I wondered if anyone knew what this was?

Thanks all

I have fluttering sensation, I described it to my doctor as if a baby was moving around. He dismissed it saying that the liver is just an organ and can't flutter or move, I can't remember now what he said it might be.

Hello, My doctor said the same thing as Skywalker. I think, for me anyway, it may have to do with the fluid around the liver that makes it feel that way. Mine has been happening for a couple years and seems to be more frequent, sometimes I think it is diet, fatigue or exertion, I usually sit for a few minutes and say a little prayer and it goes away. Sort of hurts and definitely catches me off guard! Thoughts and prayers, cyndy

I have this on a regular basis along with the feeling that something in that area is enlarged and there is not quite enough room for all my organs. have spoken to my doctor and she just looks at me as if I am completely mad. still trying to get a diagnosis of anything wrong at all with me. I think i am being treated as "slightly neurotic" :-)

Hello julieyarn1.

In my opinion nearly all doctors are mad anyway!!!

No I don't know what you mean presently about these feelings/flutterings as can't say I experience anything like that. I occasionally feel like I've springs and coils jumping about in my stomach sometimes though but that is temporarily after eating of the odd occasion.

I have not much trust at all in doctors to be honest. My sister suffered a ruptured brain aneursym 3 months ago and she is still in hospital attempting to recover. It is the medial profession that are holding her back! She was transferred to the 2nd hospital she was at (she has been in 3 here in Lancashire, UK) nearly 3wks ago now and apparently was due to have a PEG feed tube due to her keep having problems with solids once again. Her husband discovered last Friday that she has not even been scheduled for it in the 2wks she had been there and was informed it was some internal mix-up! She still hasn't had the procedure as of yesterday. Basically she has been laid in a hospital bed in all this time and hasn't even been assessed so she can get out of bed as she started walking by herself 4wks ago.

So sorry to hear about your sister, Peridot, I agree, the doctors don't seem to know what is happening with their patients and as a result progress is lost. I've heard of so many cases where this has happened. Hope everything goes well for her.

What you describe is exactly how i feel Julieyarn "the feeling that something in that area is enlarged and there is not quite enough room for all my organs". If i touch under my rib on the right hand quadrant an area seems to be swollen.

I don't experience any fluttering though.

I still have not been to the doc's about this or the other symptoms yet.

Thanks all, I googled it too and plenty of people describe the sensation but no one seemed to know the answer.

When doctors don't know I'd rather they just said so. We're all smart enough to understand there will be some unknowns but to dismiss the symptoms as imaginary would really agitate me. I'm having my next bloods and chat with my consultant in a few weeks so I'll see what he says.

Hi CheshireEm, I have continuous rumbling and gurgling in my stomach, don't know whether this is the same type of thing. I just try to ignore it and carry on., I think its probably a waste of your time mentioning this to doctors as like you they would just dismiss it.

I have this all the time, but I always have lots of gas. I have several reasons to have gas, other than my liver, hiatal hernia, GERD, etc. But it almost feels like the liver is trying to drain out some bile. That's what I've always thought. I've had these feelings for years now.

I don't get rumbling or gurgling but I do get random stabbing pain in my liver region that I almost feel I could pass out. But, according to my Professor I just have to keep moving and make the best of it! I'd like to tell him that one day when some stupid disease takes the life he enjoyed away from him. They just don't get it!

I always think it is my bile is not moving out properly. I get water, change into loose clothing and rest for awhile it seems to go away, mine is more gut feeling which after I eliminate my light headless and gut feeling goes away. Sorry Julieyarn1 to hear of your poor sister. Hope she gets the care she needs. God Bless

I believe that it is worse when you eat fatty foods.I have been living with PBC since 1995 and over the years have learnt it is best to have a low fat diet.

Yes I get this 'fluttery' feeling under my right breast around the liver area. It reminded me of the times I was pregnant with my children around the 18/20 week stage.

I do, My doctor ordered numerous tests and I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver. Usually people who have this are overweight, but I am not. He just told me to watch my fat intake.

I have the same issue as some on here. It's like my liver or lung is jumping on right side but if I lay on my left side it goes to the middle of my chest and below my ribs. It kicks in my anxiety. I can feel it around my neck where I feel ur heart beat I can feel it thump. It's not normal.it comes and goes .no pain just very irritating. It scares me with all my health issues. My gallbladder was taken out years ago cause it was dead..I had 107 gallstones. They said I was lucky to be alive. I still have bowel issues due to tarlov cyst disease. If someone finds out what this is plz let me know.God bless u all

Ducina, I'm the same! I have this same problem, feel it especially when I'm laying on my stomach in bed, it sends my anxiety and hypochondria into overdrive and I start googling everything and go nuts! It's scary.

I know this was 3 years ago, but hopefully it still helps you. You should seriously consider reading medical medium- liver rescue. I’m very sure his books will help you solve all your health issues (if you apply what he recommends). His first book explains how he gets his information and it seriously works, it worked for me and hundreds of thousands of others. Best regards :)

Like Braxtonhix contractions

I had a liver fluke. It gave me a feeling like something was moving there just like you described it.

Hi Everyone,

I have the same issue. Feel twitching oh my right side of stomach like it's internal organs twitching or something. Just started happening and is freaking me out a little bit. I have found slight relief in the fact it is not uncommon. It seems to disappear when I am not laying on my stomach, but will return after about 2 minutes of laying on stomach.

My heptologist informed me that this feeling is from the surrounding area of the liver. Our liver actually has zero nerves so there's no actual feeling In the liver itself, just the area surrounding it. In my case, my liver is extremely enlarged along with my spleen being the same size as my liver. He said as the liver becomes enlarged you lose space. With my spleen being enlarged as well as my liver they are weighing down into my stomach & intestine. It's very uncomfortable

Well I have a similiar sensation, and twitching is definitely the sensation, but like a previous comment made about bile/spleen aggravation etc I think is correct. I discovered a lump on that side and was told it was a fatty lump called a ‘lymphoma’ well spelling might not be right. This links with when I visited a kineasologist(spelling might also be wrong lol) she told ne I had spleen issues and said to take vitamin B complex tablets and some ithers called ‘daily’ which you keep refrigerated. Of course there is also milk thistle for calming the liver. Just thought I would post my experience if it helps anyone, plus running fingers of left hand down right side from outer elbow down to waist with a flick out at end with hand, about ten times maybe twice a day, worth a try😁

I have experienced this on and off for several months now, and I am feeling it right now. An irregular, occasional twitch just below my right ribcage. I can even feel it with my hands by just placing my hands over the area. I was diagnosed with NAFLD a couple of years ago, so I think it has something to do with that. But it would be nice to have someone look at it with ultrasound when it is actually twitching, to see what is causing it.

Oh my goodness I'm going to the doctor in about 30 minutes to see her to ask her why my liver keeps flip-flopping every couple of seconds or so the first I've ever heard of anybody else having this happen!
