White Platelets
I have had those results on a number of occasions. The doctor always called me in to discuss them. Both times I seemed to be fighting a virus.( I am not on urso as yet but am on azathioprine immune suppressents for autoimmune hepatitis). On both occasions the white blood cell results popped back up at the next tests. Hope this helps.
Hi doublewhammy Thanks for your reply can I double check with you have you had large white platelets and a low white platelet count in the same blood test Take Care xx
also meant to say do you mean white blood cell count or your white platelet count thanks again x
Hi, sorry white blood cells. I wasnt aware we had white platelets, I thought it was red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. So I could be leading you completely astray- sorry. Again they go up and down sometimes I have no clue why as I feel okay. I guess as long as they bounce back there is no cause to worry. Not sure about platelets but I tend to look at Wikipedia to find out what role things have in my body. Sorry for the confusion.
I have a slightly lower than normal white blood cell count. Apparently it can be normal. I noticed your question mentions large white platelets but all my results stated were WBC (meaning white blood count). This is the only one on mine as well as my HB (haemoglobin) that was a bit abnormal. (My HB was 1 point below normal.) Mine has never been mentioned but I know that you can be fighting an infection of have had an infection if you have a very low white blood cell count as the WBCs are our defence system.
As far as I know I'm doing fine. I think with the white blood cells if you have an abnormally high count then that can mean something else.
Unless you are worried about it or it has been mentioned to you and explained from a blood test then personally I'd not overly-worry about it. I don't. I sometimes think too that having a blood test that shows a 1 reading below what is considered normal (or perhaps just over the highest normal number) it could be that it is normal as with some blood tests it's not a sworn thing and it could be normal for you (ie HB can be slightly lower than normal, in women especially, the body adapts and it could be normal for that person).
