Been told I have early signs of PBC. Not on any medication. Don't have the itch or severe fatigue. UltraSound was ok. They say I have this because of strongly positive AMA blood tests.
So my question is.... Is this pain related???? My doc said its a muscle strain. I know it's not. The pain moves, it's always in between my rib and hip area. However it could start on my hips then travel up towards my ribs.
Does anyone have advice for me?

I used to have this a lot. Decided abouta year ago to go red meat free and cut down on fats. Since then only occasionally get pain there. Hope this helps.
I only get bad pain on my right side just under my ribs, I have quite advanced PBC and my liver is enlarged, which is causing the pain, it doesn't go to my hip or anything so I do think your pain is unrelated to PBC. Hope this is of some help
I have pain in same place as Keren and Lynne I have found that fatty meals/alcohol increase it and small meals and lots fruit and veg decrease it.
I get pain like a cramping just under my bust down and also I get it just under my waist and down a bit on the right. with the top one that goes down to my liver area I was just told theres nothing there! strange as I thought we all had lungs and a liver etc on that side so i just gave up.
I have the pain exactly like yours Clairetopaz! One doc said it was irritable bowel, another one said it was fibromyalgia. I'm seeing a hepatologist (at last!) next week. Have had the pain for 10 months.
I've had that pain but on both sides sense before Christmas , so far the docs have come up with nothing, I'm now going to U of M in Ann Arbor , if they can't figure it out idk what to do next! Tired of being in pain!!
Lorelei can I ask how your appointment at the U of M went? Any answers? I ask be a use that's also where I go. My intense cramp like pain is just under right rib. It is so uncomfortable. I haven't pinpointed what makes it worse yet or how to make it go away. Mine is like I said a cramp ki d's lime Charlie horse pain but under my ribs.
I don't think its related to pbc as I usually feel a dull ache on my right hand side of my ribs and just below esp if I've eaten fatty foods I think its when your liver is working harder to filter the fat well that's my take on why it aches but not 100% sure ..
I have the same.. pain but nothing showing. I to am ama positive and this is my only symptom. My doctor said ibs... I think not. I think I am early as liver blood test have never been out of normal range. Can I ask is you liver test normal?
It is muscle pain or nerve pain...please do not think that because you are diagnosed with PBC that it is that.....there are hundreds of things that are nothing to do with PBC. It worries me that so many users believe this illness causes so much..it doesnt and you probably have a long good life ahead....so enjoy it and perhaps leave this forum until you are feeling less overwhelmed.....it can make you think so much is wrong with you. Without the itch you are probably fine. Good luck
My only symptom of PBC is positive AMA. Liver function is fine and ultrasound was fine.
The gastro team said I have PBC but early stages and I don't need to go back for 6 moths.
The pain on my right side has been there about 2 months now. I can't lay on my right side for long but nor can I lay on my left side as it feels like the pain is going deeper in my body. It hurts when I breathe and when I cough. The only thing I can say its like is when I yawned and stretched too much I used to get a stitch type pain and that's what this pain is like.
Hi, Which hospital do you go to? I have AMA and normal LFT'S! They wont diagnose me, even tho I itch and have really bad fatigue and sore bones!!! It's so frustrating, no-one ever believes me when I complain of tiredness and stuff! I've known about the AMA for about 4 years now, and they check my bloods every year, which they say is always normal! I'm sick of feeling like a fake
This is EXACTLY what I've dealt with for a few years now...I thought it was from sleeping in different beds....doctors said possible IBS or Fibro....mine was from an enlarged spleen and liver that only the MRI showed, did not show up in the Ultra Sound...it's getting better slowly but it is getting better...
As individuals we all have different aches and pains. The same goes for Pbc, some will have symptoms and some will not, it is all on an individual basis. It is understandable that you are worried but try and have some faith in the health professionals looking after you and don't go into overdrive on the internet as we can be bombarded with information and some of it is just absolute rubbish. Always go for evidence that has been scientifically proven.
I saw two Doctors, the first thought I had scabies, I went through all sorts of treatments and the Doctor was still convinced it was some sort of allergic reaction. I saw another Doctor at my surgery who did a set of bloods and immediately discovered that there was something wrong. As a result more tests to determine what was wrong - Discovered I had Pbc.
C'est la vie - just have to do the best with what we have.
Hope you are able to find a solution that suits you.
I used to have a pain on the right. Gastro told me it was either Gall Bladder or nothing as there is nothing else there!!! Early 2012 had emergency laparectomy because of total bowel blockage. That was caused by adhesions from previous surgery. Now I have no pain there at all and have to assume it was a sign of beginning of adhesions causing trouble.
I goto to Medway Maritime in Gillingham kent. Seen the gastro team just once.
I don't have none of the classic symptoms just this pain
I've been having pain on the right side of my hip. I thought I just bruised it, but yesterday the bottom of my spin and the left side of my hip started hurting as well as my right rib. Now today my rib is extremely hurting.
