Pain in right side

Hello, I have been in pain for a few weeks now, around where my liver is , on the right just under my ribs, it feels bruised, and hurts when I move or breathe. I was diagnosed with pbc in 2017 but my last hospital appointment was a year ago. The pain seems to move around. I have my next appointment in a couple of weeks , but I'm worried what they might find.

Hi Sharon, sorry to hear you're in pain. I was diagnosed in 2013 and have been mostly fine, however since my last ultrasound on Friday I have had a really sore bruised stomach area. I don't know if this is just a coincidence with the ultrasound as I have had scans previously with no ill effects. If this continues for you try to see your GP or consultant. Hope everything goes well for you.

Thank you, I have noticed quite a large swelling too , I have been eating quite unhealthily since Christmas, I'm worried I might have damaged my liver more. I am going to docs tomorrow.

Hi Sharon, I'm sorry you are in pain. Is it possible that you have costochondritis? It could explain how it hurts when you move and breathe. Only you know how bad it is, but don't hesitate to do what you need to, whether that's call doctor, only you can say what you should do and how urgently. At least make sure you are warm. Do you have hot water bottle? I find it's a comfort. Please let us know how you are doing.

Ohhh, I do actually suffer from costochrondritis, normally in my chest, hopefully it is just that then.

I haven't had costochondritis but I have broken sternum and ribs in years past and still I can get pain in these bones such that it'll hurt to breathe. But don't put off going to the doctor in the morning especially as you said you have swelling as well and you don't know why. And you have been in pain for weeks - that's not ok. see the doc...

I can relate to this pain. I experienced very bad pain after a week of my liver biopsy. I was put on strong anti inflammatory medicine till it went away. I sometime do get mild pain back esp whenever I have acid reflux.

Hi Sharon. I can sympathise. I too have a lot of pain and bruised feeling just like you. Also extends into my right hand side and back. I was also diagnosed in 2017 but was told I've had it much longer. I mentioned it to the gastro doctor at the hospital who I see 6 monthly and he said any pain under ribs and down right hand side was probably from my liver. He didn't seem too concerned but he's not the one suffering is he?? Will be interesting to hear what your doc says when you see him.

Not what you're looking for?
