For years we have experienced stomach issues and pain while eating pretty much anything. We have tried the fodmap diet, and medications. We have now done a colonoscopy and are on prescription medication. We are very concerned that these meds are not helping after 3 months of taking them. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, have you found anything that has worked for you?
IBS stomach issues : For years we have... - Pernicious Anaemi...
IBS stomach issues
You don’t mention what the meds are that you have been prescribed . If any of them are PPIs , then they. will not help at all . I had what I can describe as IBS symptoms . But I discovered that I had Pernicious Anaemia , which does bring those IBS -type symptoms with it for many Pernicious Anaemia patients , who suffer with low stomach acid along with many other symptoms . Correct treatment with B12 injections and probiotic food cured me totally of those awful gut symptoms. The best probiotic food for me was home -made traditional KEFIR . NOT SUPERMARKET BOUGHT . ( which is a different product - good , but not nearly as good as traditional, made with kefir “ grains “ . )
So I suggest that for you . If it doesn’t work , it will have done you no harm whatsoever . Which is more than we can say for some medications . .
Best wishes .
There are so many reasons for these symptoms.
Has your B12 been measured?
IFAB test
Test for Coeliac disease
Pancreatic issues
Tested for parasites
Sibo
Ulcerative colitis
Any of the above can cause s b12/folate deficiency
Any of the above symptoms can be caused by B12 def/ PA
Hope after all of the testing you get a way forward .

Hopefully a hospital dietician csn help guide you whilst finding a cause and solution.
I have PA and after 2 years of unexplained abdominal pain / IBS type symptoms, I was recently diagnosed with H Pylori from a test done during a gastroscopy. It's a bacterial infection which can cause a lot of damage within the gastrointestinal system, Once it was treated, my symptoms have reduced considerably. Might be something to consider for the symptoms you have been experiencing.
