Blood Test Results Critique Please

Hi, just got my test results back. Would those who have more blood test result interpreting experience than I please comment on them. I asked for full blood count and iron panel, do these tests align with that request? I asked that B12 be excluded as I SI EOD. I take a magnesium supplement at 300mg, folic acid at 5mg, Bcomplex with B6 at 10mg (stopped 4 days before test), 75mcg of Levothyroxin (down from 3.54 2023 will be asking to increase to 100mcg). Thank you.

You got a full blood count but not an iron panel. I'm not medically qualified but nothing looks amiss aside from the over-range folate which is almost undoubtedly because you're supplementing 25x the folate RDA.

I would suggest not doing that but it seems to be an item of unshakeable faith for reasons that mystify me. Perhaps the all-knowing facebook gurus know something I don't.

In terms of an iron panel, they probably didn't run one because they did not suspect a deficiency and looking at your ferritin, I don't see a reason to suspect an iron problem either.

Hi B12again,

You have had, in order the following :-

1. Folate

2. Ferritin

3. Vitamin D

4. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone

5. A Glomerular Filtration Rate - which is looking at your kidneys.

6. Acute kidney injury test

7. Urea & Electrolytes (shortened to U &E’s) - kidneys again

8. Magnesium

9. Liver Function Test (shortened to LFT’s)

10. Iron

11. Full Blood Count.

As Technoid said you have not had a Total Iron Panel which would be :-

i) Iron, Serum - 25 umol/L (14.00 - 29 umol/L)

ii) Iron Saturation

iii) Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)

iv) Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC)

v) Ferritin - 138 ug/L (24 - 336 ug/L)

I understand that you have a supportive GP and have just had a slump or a crash. Another area of interest is evaluating your life prior to the slump. What was going on ? Meeting work deadlines ? Managing Chronic Illnesses are a juggling act. It is a bit of a jigsaw, is it thyroid ? Or do I just need more Rest and Recuperation.

This also happens in ‘Healthy People’ too. Teachers are renowned for being ill in the first 2 weeks of the summer holidays. They are burnt out. Their immune system takes a whack as a consequence.

Words from the wise, before you expose and hold out your arm to the phlebotomist ask what bloods have been ordered. It is a simple, effective way of checking.

Like Technoid has written regarding the lack of a Total Iron Panel was your GP’s reason or rationale. So, if you described your symptoms (over the telephone or in person), it did not raise their Index of Suspicion. One of the biggest giveaways is a person’s voice - shortness of breath, struggling to speak and gasping.

Your sodium was a tiny bit low. You could maybe use a little bit more salt for a little while.
