Can anyone give any advice on these results, they are my Daughters. Apparently she was told her Platelets were a concern and folate . The doctor also told her they had been for the past 4 years since her daughter was born. Although no one told her for 4 years!!! They were monitoring her during pregnancy & she was taking folic acid at the time, we assumed as nothing had been mentioned it resolved itself after birth . She has been exhausted for some time now, could sleep night and day , we had put it down to Stress dealing with her Ex partner & all of that going on through Covid. She has been prescribed folic acid & Vitamin D for 4 weeks and then a follow up blood test, he told her in a telephone conversation & was quietly Spoken. She found it hard to hear him but he said her B12 seemed ok & he may send her to haematology depending on the follow up blood test . Any thoughts on this please..

I am not medically trained but this is a very low vitamin D level and folate below range but not as severe. Other markers that seem to be out are the very slightly high haemoglobin, high platelets as you mentioned, high RBC count and high lymphocytes. Serum B12 does look ok but this doesnt count for a lot and is not really reliable to rule out deficiency. The prescription of D and Folate seems, on the blood results alone, to be a reasonable response.

I mention this too much maybe but everyone should be taking vitamin D over the winter, from 1000IU upwards (2000IU is usually a good dose) but depending on how bloods look, absorption issues or carrying more weight might mean more is needed.

Thanks for your reply Technoid . I have picked up her prescription and she is taking them although the vitamin D is only 800 so we will sort out a higher dose . She has another blood test booked in 2 week so we’ll see how that Compares.
