Following a recent blood test where the following levels were reported-iron 10 umol; ferritin 18ugl; tsr 15.3%; my GP wasn’t keen on giving me iron tablets said they could be “nasty” but didn’t explain the impact they could have on my atrophic gastritis !I am struggling to keep pain free from the latter following a low fat diet and taking digestive enzymes.Would appreciate some input on taking iron and it’s impact on my stomach.I have a follow up with gastroenterologist following my gastroscopy in February in late June. Thanks

Gastritis and Iron tablets
I googled and it seems taking iron can have an adverse effect if you suffer from gastritis ! I have non-errosive gastritis and have been taking Active Ironwhich doesn't constipate. From what I read it seems iron in a liquid form has less of an impact on the stomach.
I am still waiting to be seen by a gastrologist to discuss my issues but will mention taking iron when I go.
Thanks for posting and bring to others attention.
When I got diagnosed with my gastritis I was no longer able to tolerate my iron pills. I started increasing my beef and liver intake to help. Fast forward yrs later, I recently was able to incorporate iron pills back in. I use heme iron, which is gentle on the digestive system. It only has 11mg of iron. I started with half a pill and worked myself up by the mercy of God to take 3 pills a day now. To keep things moving along in my digestive system, I use probiotic, digestive enzymes, kefir and sauerkraut.
Ask your gastro to get an iron infusion. That’s what I did. Amazing. Took about 4 to 6 weeks to feel better
