From my results I posted in the Thyroid UK group. I was told my B12 was low, and to come here. They mentioned PA.
So as I’ve been searching to see what’s going on with me, and doctors say I’m fine go on your way 🙄 what tests would you recommend I do now. Is this a good place to get a home kit test done for PA?
Hi! Ferritin looks high! Do you have a complete Iron panel to share? Are you on Iron supplements? I don't want to scare you, but too much Iron is toxic and if your ferritin is naturally raised, you should investigate the cause. As for B12, in my opinion, it doesn't look particularly low. Do you have a serum b12 test to share? If it were me, i would check ferritin first and take b12 tablets. After a month or two, i would repeat the b12 test. If nothing changes, Yes, PA is a possibility. Are you symptomatic?? ((Hugs))
I really think you should see your PCP. Ferritin is a blood protein that contains Iron. People with PA struggle to absorb Iron and folate from food (many of us have to supplement it daily - myself included and i can barely reach 100!). So your case is not what we expect to see and, from my point of view, only proves that there is a good chance that there's nothing wrong with your b12.People usually come here with almost NO ferritin and yours is naturally the opposite.
You've mentioned the thyroid forum. Do you have Graves' disease? It could explain the unusual result of your ferritin.
And Yes, you should have a full Iron test and a complete blood count. Even though you are just slight over the range, there is a condition named hemachromatosis (too much Iron on the blood) and it requires treatment. There are other possibilities for a raised ferritin and your PCP should eliminate each one of them.
As for the test, it is not very accurate, but it is the only one available to diagnose PA. Do you have any symptoms? If I were you i would spend some time here reading the stories. If they sound familiar, there is a chance that you've found your group ((Hugs))
I’ve not been diagnosed with anything. That’s the frustrating thing. As some say my B12 is low. How do I test for Graves' disease? Things is, I’m on many forums groups. And not getting anywhere. Hard to find someone to guide me.
Well, as I said above, ferritin is a good start. Its the only thing clearly out of range. Your thyroid results are great, so you don't need to be tested for Graves' disease. I just thought that you could be under treatment, so i had to ask.Do you have symptoms to share? Have you seen a doctor? Forums are full of "doctors", you should take any advice cautiously.
Been doctors with tests. And they seem to think I’m fine. Well some say my thyroid is not right. I get mixed messages.I came on the forums to try get advice, because I can’t get help from doctors. But I am told ferritin is high. But again, what does one do when doctors say it’s in range. How do I get the proper help then.
Hard to know what advice to take, but I’m only getting advice on what’s not good. Frustrating really. Thanks anyway 😊
It's pretty hard to give any kind of guidance when I have no idea of what you are going through. I don't know your symptoms and why you think there is something wrong.I know that it can be extremely frustrating to feel that something is off but none seems to be able to figure out The cause. I've been there and now i know that i wasn't crazy or hypochondriac like some doctors implied.
What i can tell you is that you should see things through the bright side. You've just ruled out 2 nasty and lifelong diseases. If it were me i would really check the ferritin. I have been sick and in forums for more years than i can remember and i have never seen it so high. You could be an exception and have it naturally raised, but it also could be the first lead to solve your puzzle. ((Hugs))
Well I’ve been looking into higher ferritin. And I’ve been told I need to test for Haemochromatosis. Which is something I need to hopefully rule out. Stress and inflammation can cause this. Which is something I do have. Gut inflammation. What I’ve worked out, Is if I have foods that have iron in them, my levels fluctuate. So can go higher, So some foods I notice make me feel unwell. My symptoms being. No energy, feel foggy mind, forgetful, tired, cold, pain. I get so unwell and sick like I have toxins running through my veins before a go to the bathroom. (Not IBS) depending what I eat, but that sick feeling goes after I’ve gone. But then can last a while with a feeling of crazy acid reflux, and toxin feeling in the body. So I have to rest. I’m Always in this fight or flight mode, tensed most times, Anxiety, My unwellnes Doesn’t help. Numbing hands, finger, feet. High iron can be toxic. So I have to rule that out. Then go from there. I know I have stomach issues. Pain in the throat, Burning, spasms, hard swallowing solid foods, But I’ve had all tests. I’m just told I have acid reflux. Hence doing my own research to what the other problem is.🙏
I'm just another member of this forum and not a medic of any kind.
From any reading I've done on this site and possibly on the thyroid forum I'm sure I've seen that if your active B12 result is below 70 then it's suggested that you get further testing done.
I've not used Viapath before but on their website they offer some useful combinations of blood testing and if you're anywhere near London you can go and get the tests done at St Thomas's Hospital for no extra charge.
Unfortunately you can't do these as a finger prick test but if you know someone qualified that can take a sample from you Viapath can send you a postal kit for a venous blood draw.
Thank you for that 😊I am going to go private with medichecks and do these test. As doctors won’t test me.
They didn’t even test me for diabetes, or B12. Above tests were private, advised by someone who I was working with for help. That didn’t even point out high ferritin, which is worrying. But that’s another story I will let go off 😋
So I will do these 3 tests to start with.
Not cheap I know. But I rather invest in my health to hopefully get to some kind or morality 😁
I will have to go get blood drawn via vain for this.
