3yrs later and Active B12 Results

After 3 years of treatment with injections and daily sublingual, I thought I would see where my levels are for the first time since before being diagnosed. I am very pleased to see the numbers just curious about one.

Q is, if my intake of Methylcobalamin is 2000microgrammes a day plus 1 Hydroxycobalamin injection one week before the test, would you be surprised to see active B12 at the levels below?

On the day of the test I had not yet taken the daily sublingual.

RESULTS:-

Active B12 150pmol/L range 37.5-188 as normal

Ferritin 250microg/L range 200-400 as normal

Folate test aborted as sample haemolysed.

Triiodothyronine FT3 5pmol/L marked Optimal

TSH 1.81mlU/L marked Optimal

TgAB 11.5kU/L range 0-115 as normal

TPOAb 10.8kIU/L range 0-35 as normal

T4 81.3nmol/L range 66-181 as normal

FT4 13.7pmol/L range 12-17 as normal

Vitamin D 104nmol/L range 76-120 as normal

Thanks in advance.

If you have PA then the sublinguals will contribute nothing to your B12 levels as you will not be absorbing them.

Your 'Active' B12 isn't as high as I would expect one week after a jab, But it's still pretty high. I'm not sure if the 'Active' B12 test can be affected by high levels of Intrinsic Factor antibodies. That might explain the lower that expected result.

Thank you. That is really helpful.

I had been wondering if after that time the body would excrete excess B12 if it couldn’t be stored.

The PA has twice been negative but we all know the reliability of the test is poor. I might see about getting that tested privately, as I don’t want to rattle the GP cage.

Ultimately though, I’m now pretty healthy with neuropathy mostly under control. Shingles hasn’t helped on the back of Covid19, mind.

Glad you ate recovering well. Shingles is horrible. Extra vitamin c helped me when I had it years ago.

You've done well coping with the covid 19 virus with vitamin b12 deficiency. Maybe the b12 being used up more with recovery?? I hope this blisters are dry now and not itching. Also headaches gone.

I had a very rare manifestation of Shingles. No rash and affecting the left Median nerve. It was almost at the limit of antivirals when I was diagnosed.
