IV Fluids & Test Results

Anyone know if IV fluids received today, (like a bag of saline) would affect blood test results taken tomorrow? If that makes sense.

Especially iron, iron saturation, ferritin & b12....? And possibly hemoglobin?

Sorry I don't even know if this makes sense but I'm thinking of going to urgent care where they'll most likely give me iv fluids but I have an appointment in the morning w my hematologist - if they release me from the hospital today.

Will it affect the accuracy of my results tomorrow at all? Make iron seem higher or lower than it really is? Should I just not go today? Idk what to do just really not feeling well.

I know this is a pa forum. I have PA but also having trouble keeping iron up and there's no ID group to ask plus I like you guys anyway lol.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Ask a nurse or doctor if you in hospital.

I expect it depends what iv fluids .

If saline I don't think it should affect a blood test.

Hope you feeling a bit better soon .

After 18 hours it will make no difference at all. The extra volume will go out as extra pee.

Good luck with your appointment today.

It's always worth telling the person you see what you have had recently so they can take everything into account.

I hope they can help and you start to feel better soon.
