Fake high b12 levels?

Hello lovely people

Again with more confusion...

I have yet another Gp appointment tomorrow morning ( I think she's as fed up with me as i am with her).

I am at the end of my patience, really frustrated. Had some tests done in Romania, my home country ( i now live in the Uk)

And my b12 levels came as 2000...how can that be? When I have all the symptoms of the deficiency and I am diagnosed with PA. Also, on the last appointment I told the gp I suspect there is something wrong with my thyroid as I have every single one of the symptoms listed on the NHS website for hypothyroidism..and yet my TSH, T4 and T3 came up as normal. My fasting blood sugar was 7.7 last time and my gp said there is nothing really to worry! Then ...I had 2 appointments with a haematologist and after 5min seeing me he said he did my full blood count and everything is normal...he thinks I am imagining my symptoms..maybe if I loose some weight ( as if it's that easy, I also suffer with PCOS). Plua I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands but right hand needs surgery, which apparently I have been denied funding for..and instead they are offering me steroid injections

see you again in 3 months he said!!

I am so frustrated...and at the end of my patience

I honestly dont know what else to ask my GP to test me for...I just want some answers

Sorry for the long post, I am just so sad. I am only 33 but feel as if I am falling apart :(

Thank you for reading

if you have had B12 injections then serum B12 doesn't really mean much as a test - generally people would get rid of B12 from injections after 6 months but that doesn't work for everyone.

The symptoms of hypothyroidism and B12 overlap considerably and there are similar problems with using normal level in diagnosing hypothyroidism as there are in diagnosing B12 deficiency - but you can find out more on the TUK forum

It is possible that you have a functional B12 deficiency - usual tests for this are MMA and homocysteine - products of processes that build up if cells don't have enough B12 to recycle them. There is some doubt that both coming back normal will rule out functional deficiency though because there are a large number of processes that go on in cells and use B12 so others could be going wrong whilst these are running okay.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I was thinking about asking for MMA after reading Boit it..but today at my appointment when I asked my gp she was confusing the 2...which shows me how much she knows about it :(
