Ferinject - iron infusion

Hi folks. Fairly recently diagnosed as having PA and have just completed my first six loading doses of B12 (8 days ago). I also have Graves disease (which is stable for now and not on any medication for it) and, I have iron deficiency anaemia for which I have been taking X3 200mg Ferrous Sulphate iron tablets for many many many years (can't tolerate Ferrous Fumerate). However, I've had little success with oral iron and my ferritin is still at six so, on Monday I had my first ever iron infusion of 1000mg of Ferinject. I was really anxious for this procedure but it all went very smoothly. It can be administered within 15mins but they done it in half an hour given my anxiety. Just wondering if anyone has had Ferinject and when they feel the benefits of it? It has been 5 days and I'm feeling really under the weather with flu like symptoms in my head and sore throat which started to appear on day 4. I feel knackered! My son and partner have recently had sore throats so I'm not sure if I've picked up sore throat from them or if it is related to the Ferinject? I just want to feel better and less tired overall but not seeing any signs of this from the B12 or iron out infusion. It is so deflating.

Hi there. I had an iron infusion and it took over an hour to go in same amount as you. I thought I’d feel better after a few days but it wasn’t until about 4 weeks before I began to feel the benefit. I had no other side effects.

Thank you for your response. There was a gentleman next to me and he had the same amount of Ferinject but over 90mins. I think the timing is unique to individual circumstances. Mine was scheduled for 15mins but I felt panicky about reaction so they said they would administer it slower. Glad to hear you had no other side effects. I am thinking this sore throat has been passed onto me so fingers crossed I will feel some benefits from the Ferinject in a few weeks time.

Yes you are right. The amount they inject you with and speed of administration has to do with the level of your deficiency, your weight and other factors so your anxiety will also feature in their reckoning. Hang in there. I very much doubt your sore throat is to go with the injection. All I can say is you will feel the benefit- it might just take s bit longer than you were expecting. Good luck with it!

I can only respond regarding the b12 and I took weeks to be feel relatively normal and months to feel completely like myself with only the occasional off day which can occur at any point between injections.
