Hi there, I'm battling to get a vitamin B12 folate deficiency diagnosis as seems horribly common in the UK and intend to buy B12 injections and all the paraphernalia that goes with it! Most people seem to buy from Germany.. as a complete novice, can someone help me to get started? My blood tests are borderline, but previously have shown deficiencies that the GP never mentioned/addressed with me. Desperate to help myself get better π
Buying B12 injections: Hi there, I'm... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Buying B12 injections
I personally use versandapo.de a German online pharmacy . The site is only in German so you may need the translation facility . I use Rotexmedica B12 depot B12 (Hydroxocobalamin) . The ampoules are 1mg x1ml which I find more convenient than 1mg x 2ml . ( Hevert)
bodfeld-Apotheke.de also only in German supplies to U.K.
Another German pharmacy that supplies to U.K. is mycare.de. in English
Amazon.de in English also supplies B12 ampoules , but some of the supplying pharmacies do not send to U.K.
Needles , syringes, swabs, sharps boxes, etc. obtainable at medisave.co.uk
Always make sure that you are ordering Hydroxocobalamin not Cynocobalamin(cheaper) Hydroxocobalamin is what the NHS uses.
hey, do u know any Methylcobalamin supplier within Europe?
Yes , you can obtain ampoules of Methylcobalamin from Arnika Apotheke in Munich . They come in packs of 10 . 1mg x 1ml . You can phone them - +49 89 452 468 468 . You can email them stating what you need . They will tell you the cost and you can pay them with PayPal . ββ manufaktur@arnika-apo.de
They all speak English there .
Are arnika selling to the public again now Wedgewood? Last I heard was that they werenβt but maybe changed again?
Just a quick note of caution - it is recommended that your first jab is done somewhere where you could get help in the extremely rare instance that you might get an allergic reaction to the jab.
I haven't ever heard of anyone getting a reaction but I do know that some people drive to a health centre or hospital and do their first jab there just to be on the safe side.
Good luck and welcome to getting your life back.
The DNA, nerve function and energy release processes which use the B12 also require many other vitamins and minerals so many people on regular jabs benefit from taking a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement - cheap supermarket ones are as good as any - plus extra folate, potassium, magnesium and iron.
Thanks for your reply... I'd heard about the risk of anaphylactic shock so am wary of that. Grateful for your advice and support.. I've never felt so low in my adult life as I have trying to get to the root of this problem. At the doctor's this morning and will beg for B12 injections!!
Ask them for hard evidence of safety reasons not to at least try it (they won't be able to give you any because it is so safe). Try not to get upset (easier said than done) and just sit tight and ask again and again, "Why not?"
Good luck!
Been there, done that!! π
Argh!
I so feel for you. If you try it with the cofactors and you don't get any positive response then you'll know its something else but it's so worth trying the safest option first, isn't it?
I wish you better luck on Monday!
Ps.. cofactors? Don't understand what that means??
Supporting supplements; the other things needed alongside the B12 to make all the processes work.
Covered by a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement plus extra folate, potassium, magnesium and iron. x
I understand.. thank you π have started taking spatone for iron and will look into the others today... very grateful for your help π x
The A-Z Vitamins and Minerals offered by supermarkets are as good as any of the more expensive branded ones, as are their folic acid pills. There is 200 mcg of folic acid in most of the multivits but you are likely to need more than that, especially if need quite frequent jabs. You could try one 400mcg tablet in addition and see how you get on. If in time you get folate deficiency symptoms (very similar to B12 deficiency symptoms but they won't go, even with lots of jabs) then you may well need more.
(Some people recommend 5mg which is the same as 5,000 mcg [1 milligram = 1,000 micrograms] if you're on every other day injections for which you'd need to take your multivit to give you 200 mcg plus 12 x 400mcg folic acid tablets. Don't worry about this for now but it shows you the safety margin you are working with).
Try to get the potassium and magnesium from your diet if you can. I suggest you Google the symptoms of deficiency and excess of these so you know what to expect and what sources of these you might like to eat and drink.
Be warned that many of the supplements some might recommend can be harmful if you take too much. Most people should be able to get enough in their diet. Ask your doctor before you start chucking random chemicals into your body.
Yes, I agree and am definitely trying to get everything I need from food rather than supplements!
I agree wholeheartedly but as fbirder and I and many others have found we are only suffering because for some reason our bodies are unable to work properly on really good diets alone and if you have to supplement to be well then you do.
While it is the advice that we must advocate, we have also found out "asking your Dr" doesn't always provide the answers we need to be healthy and people with greater knowledge of the subject, backed up by combined experience can offer a greater insight into what has in practical terms actually worked for others without prescribing antidepressants and similar drugs which Dr's readily dish out, regardless of the side effects or consequences of leaving the true problems untreated and therefore causing damage. An example of such a practical person is Martyn Hooper, the chair of the PAS, who is not a Dr but still offers very good advice to others, following his own experience of PA.
Hear hear...My GP has agreed to an IF test now, but can't get an appointment until 24th...then have to wait for the results, then have injections (maybe) and in the meantime my business has lost over Β£2000+ in revenue as I can't work, we've cancelled a holiday to Croatia this weekend and many social commitments and I still feel unwell. I've no choice but to try other avenues to heal myself...
I'm self employed too and am primarily a contractor and consultant in the Livestock industry, which is where my knowledge of nutrition comes from - my livelihood and now my life too depend on it so I understand your urgency to be well.
With animals good nutrition is imperative for welfare and there is no placebo effect. There is no way our industry could countenance similar actions to those of many medical professionals - if an animal was made to suffer by such willful neglect we'd be locked up! π
Just be aware that any supplementation will potentially skew your results. If antibody has an astounding false negative rate however: A positive result is considered basically enough to diagnose PA under the various guidelines. That means b12 injections for life per the guidelines on the NHS. After the loading period (which you may have to remind the doctor to do) it's 1mg every 2 or 3 months. With 2 months being did dependent on convincing the Dr that there is some degree of neurological impairment. If you feel you cannot wait for the tests; there are various firms online that will do the requisite tests either at a private clinic or via a mail-in kit. (These use a finger-prick sample method.) Depending on the results you can then choose what to show your gp. Ask for the if antibody test on a separate piece of paper is my advice.
As for my b12; I use Amazon.de seller "Landgrafen Apotheke" they ship in about 4-5 working days from Germany. "Exchange supplies" website for needles and syringes etc, they have an incredible selection.
Good Luck!
Will keep you posted... trying to hang on to my fighting spirit!
