At last I have managed to get B12 injections from my gp every two weeks - and the terrible pain in my feet has improved so much. However, I am left with being woken with red hot feet - any tips of how to help myself with this?

Burning feet at night
oh dear me I didn't mean the photo to be as huge as this. sorry sorry
Hah it's always nice to put a face to a name, even though I'm cheating and currently use an old pic of when I last stopped eating gluten - it's a pic of the future past me
My feet were burning lots last night but freezing cold earlier in the day, from what I've read it's the nervous system going a bit haywire as it's gradually coming back into action. I don't think it's anything to be worried about, personally I'm enjoying experiencing heat in my hands and feet, something I simply don't remember feeling for a looooong time!
I've suffered with burning feet/legs for years now, and the only thing that helps me when it's really bad is to get up and stick my feet in a basin of cold water. Sometimes a spray with peppermint in can help. That would be preferable in the middle of the night!
grateful for these comments. Feel so alone in the night with my red red hot feet. Try to remember how awful the pain used to be......thank god for b12. what a fight I have had to get them on a regular basis.
I have had the same problem with burning feet and legs for more years than I can remember. I have a frame to lift the duvet over them during the winter and stick my legs out of bed during the warmer months.
Every time I notice a burning feet post, I try to post this link:

Of course it is not perfect, but it isn't a bad overview document and does mention most of the known causes.
yes, thank you. I read this and it made sense until it got to the bit about psychosomatic causes. Bah!
Yes jillc39 I have the same problem every night my feet and legs are in and out of the covers Only sleep with a cotton sheet over me and their still burning At times I have got up and stood outside the back door to cool them down ,Used cold sprays,Cold wet clothes ,and Cold creams just to get a bit of sleep ,Don't no about you but I get it sometimes in the day too ,Big hugs to you x
This thread is reminding me of my mother. My mother's recurring sensation of burning feet was tied in for her with a dream in which she had to walk barefoot up Mount Vesuvius. Horrible for her but she was hilarious in her recounting of this.
jillcur39 when my feet burn I know I am due for a B12 shot. Could you experiment with more frequent treatment to see if it helps? I si every 2-3 days and I have pain in feet and legs when I try to stretch it out.
This is why it is important to keep a diary of symptoms so you can provide the Dr with your 'evidence based science' - helped a lot with my Dr.
I'm the same but mines during the day when I get up its really painful to walk my feet are burning and painful and I also get it throughout the day iv been taking pregabablin and codeine to help with the pain
Hi Jill know about the burning feet problem - mine was due to circulatory problems - it went over night after a hysterectomy! I have had this problem with taking nicotinamide for chilblains - prescribed by doctor think it is a type of B vitamin - I had to stop taking the tablets as I could not sleep. What I have found since is that bathing your feet in tepid water, then rubbing a moisturiser foot cream such as Neutrogena foot cream or peppermint foot cream from the body shop can cool the feet down. Sometimes you might have athletes foot which presents with bright red feet, looking sore. I have to use athletes foot cream. Sometimes too much sugar or yeast can cause athletes feet and candida. Sometimes the b vitamin injections have certain chemicals added and metal such as cobalt. You could ask your pharmacist to check your prescription to see the ingredients - these additives could also be a sign of an allergen. Hope you find the cause of the hot feet - and find the right method for you. Ps cotton socks may protect your bedding from creams - I use the ones that cover the base of the foot, but not the entire ankle.
