Feet were hurting slightly like prickly feelings and now after getting 7 b12 injections the symptoms are now severe burning sensation. Is this expected? Hoping this is the nerves over firing and the burning goes away soon.

Yes, expected. As the nerves repair, the damage already present is experienced properly for the first time. It is unfortunate but unavoidable. With time it hopefully should improve but the extent of recovery depends on how long symptoms were present before treatment.

Ensure you're supporting healing with good nutrition, sleep, rest, supplementation as needed, social support, reduced stress and gentle exercise as soon as that is possible for you.

I was the same.Tingling before Injections, and painful like having pebbles in my shoes when injections began, only easing after many injections.

I also bought a pair of Joya shoes, they're expensive at around £170, but are the most comfortable shoes and they're all I wear now.

Good luck, and I am sure symptoms will begin to ease soon.

it happens for about 40% when the nerves heales - its actually a good sign. But its important to take the b12 injections often to minimize this period. Its recommended by international b12 specialist (b12 institut Holland, Mayo Clinic usa) that you should inject at least twice a week - with hydroxocobalaminacetat (like Pascoe 1500 b12 depot). If you dont get hydroxocobalaminacetat or not this often you should consider storting selfinject.

Ok She had 7 injections at once a week. Burning was at its worse after the 6th and 7th injections.

For me, this indicated that I needed iron. I suspect the extra b12 used up my already low ferritin stores. So that could be a possibility. Once I took a few doses of ferritin the sensation went away.

Ok thank you, She on iron supplements also. 10 weeks now on those.

What was her ferritin level? Did she have a full iron panel done? If the problem is absorption then that oral supplements are unlikely to make a huge amount of difference. I've been iron deficient for years and my levels have never gotten high enough despite being on supplements.

I will check what her levels were this afternoon when I get home. I can’t remember exactly right this minute. Don’t want to guess at it. She gets her iron checked again this Friday. So hoping it is better. Alone with the b12 .

Good to know. It is only an indicator though and a full iron panel would give a better indication of iron status. It took a lot of pushing GPs to get mine done. A fuller picture months earlier could've made a lot of difference to my health.

Oh ok, Thank you. Yes we had to push for blood work the first time. She had Anxiety and depression also so it’s been a roller coaster for her. Surprised Doctors don’t keep and eye on deficiencies more closely.

Hey, Her iron level is 230 mg/dl

Which is in the low side of normal range. So they want her to continue with iron supplements. B12 is way up now after injections and is 811 now from 185 pg/ml previously before injections.

Oh ditto, that resonates with me. My burning feet started to improve after a few months of injections but like you might my ferritin was low and getting lower. I'm iron deficient and my feet are now much worse after 6 months of EOD. Good iron levels needed for B12 repair & recovery.
