Is it true that B12 injections can cause weight loss.... I'm a bit concerned because I've been on a weight loss diet after gaining a lot of weight before and after major surgery a year and a half ago... If it's true that the injections can cause weight loss... Then I'll have to stop my diet... as I don't want to waste away 😂 LOL....

Weight loss and B12
There have been a couple of posts recently about slimming clinics in the US providing B12 shots as a slimming aid.
I'm not aware of any big studies showing that B12 causes weight loss - though possible with some people that it might enable processes that haven't been working properly but are involved in release of energy from fat or something that might mean it would help some people lose weight - there's probably one study that picked up a correlation in a population and a hundred that show the opposite but the clinics will just keep quoting the one and ignore everything else
The only reasons I can think of that could explain weight loss are:
Getting a diagnosis of a B12 deficiency can prompt one to look more closely at their diet, and maybe give up some of the 'naughty' stuff.
If you are severely deficient then it's quite likely that you are too fatigued to do anything at all energetic. Getting B12 back up to proper levels can help you increase the amount of exercise you take.
Thanks fbirder.... I'm vegetarian and mostly a healthy eater.. I have the odd bar of chocolate now and then..I'm on a wee diet due to lack of exercise waiting for a major operation.. and again the lack after... I was just wondering because I didn't want to lose too quickly ☺.....
I've lost almost a stone since my B12 injections started - I know this is due to the fact that my appetite has gone and I'm just not eating much. I also tried to cut down on my gluten intake in case this was affecting absorption in my stomach. I have to force myself to eat proper, healthy meals now. I'm glad to have lost weight, but don't want it at the expense of my health!
Hi kirsten555...I think I might have lost a bit over and above what I was trying to lose... that's why I was a bit concerned...my appetite is back to normal so I'll keep my eye on things... I hope you're appetite returns soon as you'll need the energy from it... I can only wish you the best for the future.....
I haven't lost any weight, unfortunately.
My weight is the same as it was before I started jabs. I gained a bit for a few months, then lost it again when I started doing more. It's a shame really - I could do with gaining a bit, as I'm a skinny bird!
I'm not sure if it's because I have been more conscious of what I am eating but I have dropped over 8lbs since finishing my loading dose last week. I was really struggling to lose weight just before I found out I had PA, no matter what I did diet/exercise wise the weight stuck around my midriff but has since gone. Strange
