Hypothyroid and low B12 levels...

I am taking B12 shots for my very low b12 levels.

Vitamin B12 ↓ 117 pmol/L (156.1- 698) (tested on 12/09/2015)

I started taking the injections 4 days ago( 3-10-2015) and I have taken 2 till now.I am taking 500mcg methycobalmine on alternate days.

I am planning to self inject every day instead of alternate days.I need a little advise whether I should take 1mg methycobalmine everyday for 1 week or till I feel a little better.

My symptoms include:

brain fog

difficulty concentrating

mental and physical fatigue

depression and anxiety

hair fall. (the day I take the injections, hair don't fall at all but start again the next day)

extremely poor memory

I cannot sit with legs down.(I don't know if that is included in b12 deficiency symptoms)

palpitations

slight yellow tint in skin color

I found some old posts about Neurobion forte injections on this forum. When I googled the ingredients for it,I found that it has vitamin b1 and b6 along with b12.I know that b12 in Neurobion is cynocobalmine but I want to know if injecting 500mcg methycobalmine 1 day and Neurobion forte the other day would be a good idea?

Other supps.I am taking daily include

Vit.D drops around 1000IU

B-Complex tabs (b1,b2,b3,b5,b6,b9)

Iron chewable tabs twice a week

Multi-vitamin and minerals tab.

Some people do have reactions to methylcobalamin but if you haven't noticed anything on the doses you have taken already then it is unlikely you will have a problem with taking higher doses.

I'd be a bit wary of taking anything with B6 in it just because high doses of B6 have been known to lead to neurological damage - which hasn't always reversed when supplementation stops (>100mg a day over several months)

Don't know about the other B vitamins but to be honest you'd probably have more benefit from something that had B9 in it (though again, folic acid does cause some people problems so approach with caution.

You may find this resource on upper daily limits for vitamins a useful resource in assessing what you are proposing

Thank you so much for replying.

My folate levels are too high so I am not going to take any folic acid supplement separately. But I will take my multivitamin bcz it doesn't have that much b9 in it.I think that would be OK.

Thanks again for your help :)

Gambit can you pls tell me what are the reactions to methylcobalmin that some people experience? I have never felt good in my entire life and I don't even know what a normal symptoms free life really is.

It isn't common and I can only go by what people have reported here but it seems to be generally feeling really awful and dizzy.

so when feeling really awful on b12 injections we should continue till we start feeling better or take injections less frequently?

I am taking 500mcg methycobalmine on alternate days .I started this week, on Saturday and yesterday was my third injection.

t is difficult to say - what do you mean by feeling awful. It is quite common for pains to get worse before they get better, to have rashes and even for colds etc to feel a bit worse as your nerves recover and your immune system kicks back in. I had a terrible cold about 1 week after I started using a nasal spray to get the doses I needed but it was different from how colds had been for a number of years - a real streaming cold whereas my immune system hadn't been up to runny nose for a number of years.

Sorry but I can't be more specific but hope this gives you an idea.

Thanks for your reply dear.

I will see if my symptoms improve after taking few more injections.....I guess I am going through healing crisis right now.

Hopefully, you will find (like me) that a week of injections every other day does the trick, and you can then drop back to less frequent injections based on how you feel. I'm not doing one a week.

I take a multivitamin every day, and a B-complex tablet every other day. My injections a Hydroxocobalamin, and I have some Methylcobalamin tablets that I take if I am expecting a physically demanding day.

BTW, I have noticed since I started B12 injections that I don't need so much thyroid medication (NDT). You may be different but if you start to feel worse again, that could be the issue.
