compressed nerve affecting Hands

I have nerve from my spine causing severe tingling and burning to my hands, mostly when lying down to sleep at night but occurring in daytime when sitting down but ,less serious then. I have been prescribed Neurontin ( Gabapentin) but yet to take any as I'm not certain if they mask sensations of other problems?

Hi, I tried gabapentin - for me it did not numb the nerves but made me sleep for 18/20 hours a day. Don't be discouraged - it works differently for everyone.

Hi

Have you had an MRI as when I had mine done my spinal cord was being squashed and I had to have spinal decompression. Drugs are not always the answer, speak to your GP as I had loads of X-Rays but it was the mri that showed up how bad it was.

Kindest regards

Terry

Many thanks.I have had only x-rays over very many years, and told i have a degenerative vertebrae condition at, I believe, no 6/7 affecting the nerve from the spine.Things only became really bad 4 years ago preventing a good night's sleep. Not too bad in the day. Am thinking of perhaps trying Acupuncture, although i have an appointment at a pain clinic in a few weeks. not too hopeful with that, and will ask for further investigation by, as you say you had, an MRI. Regards

HELLO

One of the problems that I have is the same thing it transmits down the arms and can effect the hands an fingers, One medication you can try is amitryptalene ( excuse spelling) this can also cause sleepyness so taken at night. Meds all have their problems and need in cases ruled by benefit, loss .

One way I use to keep my hands manipulate is to get a couple of conkers and play with the both of then in your pocket this may help. Although you really need an MRI or Ultrasound

An MRI scan may not show the location of the problem. A tense muscle compressing a nerve would not always be seen on an MRI Scan.

Try a Mctimony Chiropractor and see if they can be of any help.

The nerve running through the funny bone (sorry cannot remember medical name) if hit will cause tingling and burning to the hands. Sometimes the funny bone can compress on the nerve and requires an operation to remove the compression. MRI should show this.

Hi, I have suffered with trigeminal nueralgia for the last 3 years. At present I am taking the max of Gabapentin and the pain still remains - I am due to switch drugs to Gaba's sister pill pregabalin in next few weeks to see if that helps. Not a pill popper and struggle to take 12 x 300mg daily. Am in process of seeking acupuncture to see if any relief for facial pain. Would like to ask out there for any advice - today I am experiencing very sore tender to touch skin on the back of my right hand and same sensation on my lower arm, it is as if somebody has punched me in those areas, any ideas. Cool water, pj sleeve etc very painful when coming into contact with this area of my arm and hand. ps have read and re read side effects of Gaba and cant see anything to relate to my hand and arm pain!

I'm sorry I can't help you, but do sympathize as I know nueralgia can be hard to take.I myself have today been to see an Acupuncturist and might well give it a try. After all nothing to lose given that traditional medicine doesn't seem to help a lot in so many cases. Good luck..
