Hi, I have pain and on gabapentin, co codamol, I have neuralgia and I have spoken about this. The issue I want to talk about is the use of cannabis for pain relief. My doctor will not prescribe opiates and I understand this. I found a company c in the UK. I have had an appointment with a doctor from this company and have been given a prescription for cannabi 10mg TCH and 10Mg CBD in an oil at £175 for a months supply. Does anyone have any experience of this this. It is legal with a prescription since 2018 in the uk and you get a card saying you are a registered user and have a prescription. I have not yet decided to pay yet and get the presciption for a few reasons. My main concern is driving and effect on work. I wanted to see if any of you have used this and get your experience. Cannabis , TCH, and CND research is inconclusive for pain relief and the NHS won't fund it due to lack of evidence. That is what I know so far.

I was in a similar situation, privately prescribed cannabis oil for chronic pain. For me it didn't directly relieve the pain but certainly helped me cope with it, it was good for my depression and anxiety. On the other hand I didn't use it as prescribed, I only took it once a day. Also, of course, some people apparently find it does relieve pain. I think the only way to know is to try it! Incidentally, like you I got a 1:1 ratio THC/CBD mix at first but later that was switched to a THC only one, I had to buy CBD oil and mix them myself, and that was substantially cheaper, something to bear in mind! Though I suspect what you're getting might last longer than a month anyway. Good luck!

thank you so much that is super useful info - if I take it I would take 2.5mg so if I don't use the full dose then it could last a lot longer than a month and I may not use it everyday for driving issues

Ihave chronic neurological pain from botched cervical is surgery. I find THC to be somewhat effective for relief and coping with the pain. I prefer to smoke cannibis so I can feel the effects immediately and it wears off rather quickly if I have to drive. I have used edible versions of both cbd and ththc and found the effects to be less predictable and longer lasting. I have not found cbd to be of additional help. If you have not used these drugs previously, I would start out with 5mg of thc and titrate upwards after assessing the results. Personally I would then add the cbd and make your own judgment as to whether this is helpful. I live in Maine USA and all these options are legal. Best of luck , etheral

thanks for the reply - this site is super helpful - UK is different for legals - smoking is illegal and only oil or other methods are ok - I think 2.5mg start and titrate up but as I work and drive I think I would not use this every day and just when not working and driving. Has anyone used this in this way - I guess this is how people who smoke it use it eg not every morning and evening. In the prescription it says every morning and evening . If I use it I will just try it occasionally and not sure if this reduces effectiveness but it is the only way. In this and other threads comments that thc is the thing that helps with pain.

Hi..Using THC occasionally will not reduce its effectiveness and in fact Will be helpful in that you will not build up a tolerance that would reduce it's effectiveness. etheral

it really depends on the level of pain. I have only experienced proper cannabis not the medical stuff. It can be relaxing and feel like you are less ‘tight’ - loosen you up - so in that extent it is pain relieving but I would argue it would be on the level of paracetamol with added relaxation.

If your GP is not giving you adequate pain relief, I would ask to change GP first.

I hope that helps. I just don’t think it is AS helpful for severe pain as is being made-out.
