Past 2 years ive had recurring (every few months) pain where my left side of my back (behind the pec) has a sharp pain when i breathe, this pain is worsened by exercise or generally walking about. Breathing can become very difficult and I went to hospital, had blood tests x rays but nothing was found. I was told this was just 'chest pain' I was hoping someone else had a similar experience or an explanation. Thanks for reading this.

Unexplained heart/chest pain

In between all your ribs are loads of little muscles and other connective tissue. These can get inflamed and strained just like an ankle or wrist, and that is likely what is causing the pain. Also the muscles in the back all connect to the spine and some go from the neck right down your back. So something that is going on in the neck can sometimes be felt as pain further down. In addition to this, there are nerves that run between each rib, and they can sometimes catch on something and cause pain.
Have you seen a physio? They might be able to help with figuring out what is going on.
Has anyone queried costochondritis? This is where cartilage in the chest becomes inflamed. It might be worth looking into that. Unfortunately there is no cure as such, it is more about looking at ways to manage the pain.
I’ve had this issue and it’s likely costochondritis. Look into the back pod & massage gun tool- foam rolling and stretching *daily* help a ton. I find when I do this, I can workout again. Hope this helps!
