Long term unexplained chest pain

Hi all,

As the title says I have been having chest pain daily for a while now, about 2 years or more! When it first started I ended up in the ER, I had an ekg, stress test and 24 holter monitor, nothing showed up. Since then my life has just basically been miserable, it has caused huge anxiety about my health, particularly heart health and the pains have cause numberous panic attacks. Another episode landed me in the ER about 6 months ago, ‘‘tis time they did ekg, chest X-ray and bloods, again nothing showed up. Just last month I had another stress test and 24 holter monitor and again they were normal. I’v also had an endoscopy to rule out GERD because I get a lot of heartburn but that also came back clear of GERD but did show a small hiatus hernia.

I am at my wits end, I feel my life is ruined with fear, I simply cannot enjoy anything anymore. What is causing this chest pain? Doctors are now saying anxiety but this all started before I ever got anxious over anything, the chest pain has cause my anxiety!! The pain is very very real and it’s not letting up, over 2 years now and it’s still going on. What can I do? What other tests can I beg my doctor for?

Ok I’m with you 100%. Panic attacks can be as bad as heart attacks. They raise your cortisol levels, decrease your thyroid levels over time and stress out your body. I had much stress and went full autoimmune disease with panic attacks. Cymbals helped. Plus Xanax. But in the end the best thing was getting healthy. No caffeine, Keto diet, 7 hrs sleep. Off almost all meds now. High school weight. Lowered stress. Have to make a plan. Good luck!

You are in the States. So treatments that are available in the UK and Europe are not available there.

Suggest see an Alexander Technique teacher.

They may help.

In the UK or Europe I would suggest a McTimony chiropractor. You may have over contracted muscles which need to uncontracted. At the moment I waiting to find out what is the equivalent professional who does the same thing as a McTimony chiropractor in the States. Unfortunately this may take me about 4 weeks or more.

I’m in Ireland and there’s not many McTimony chiropractors here, none at all in my area!

If you are in the States would you be able to see an osteopathic doctor? They might be able to listen better and figure out what is going on.

(for those in the UK, in the US osteopathic doctors go to medical school and are classed as doctors, unlike here in the uk where osteopaths are more like physiotherapists.)

Apologies, my mistake! that will be a bit more difficult then. Have they eliminated costochondritis? Some people have looser ligaments and muscles which can cause problems in the chest area.

And I do believe you that it isn't anxiety, or at least that didn't start it, but may now be making it worse. Have you seen physio? Maybe they can help improve your posture which might take some of the stress on the muscles and tendons away.
