Hello arvine

For queries relating to medication and side effects, we would always encourage you to seek advice from a health care professional (eg your GP or pharmacist) who will be best placed to answer your question. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Both methotrexate and prednisone can increase the risk of infection by suppressing the immune system. Prednisone generally has a stronger impact, especially when used long-term or in high doses. Since you’ve been on methotrexate for 4 weeks and are already experiencing side effects like hair loss and diarrhea, it’s important to consult your doctor before surgery to assess whether to adjust or temporarily stop these medications to lower the risk of infection.
