Medical anxiety

I cannot deal with anything medical I absolutely freak out ! I do not go to the GP at all I avoid it like the plague does anyone else suffer with this?

I'm the opposite.

I self diagnose with Dr Google, and then tell the doctor what I need. He/ she are usually delighted not to have to rack their brains.

What do you think is preventing you?

I am a Google warrior too and worry my self sick half the time like i am now I then seem to read stuff I don't need to read and there could be 101 symptoms I have one and yes I've got it and worry myself until I move on but never go to the doctors

Any form of anxiety can be quite disabling especially when combined with using Dr Google . My wife suffers quite badly from various forms of medical anxiety. She is needle phobic, just going into a hospital to visit can send her into a panic. Sadly she as a number of chronic conditions which over the years required bloods to be taken operations etc etc.

My advice is to take someone you trust into your confidence who can go with you to the GP etc. Who can explain that you are anxious etc. From my experience with my wife the GP and the hospital as learnt that keeping me with her prevents many problems such as fainting whilst taking bloods to panic attacks before surgery and after.

My wife as been referred to various people to try and help her anxiety with very limited success.. However if your GP is unaware of your issues then and nothing is done then you are at risk.

Yes I feel the same way. I'm prescribed anti-anxiety meds (valium) to take the night before and day of appt. I still feel nervous and anxious but with the medicine I can make it to my appts without severe anxiety & the symptoms that accompany anxiety. I just could not go without the anti-anxiety medicine.
