Adjustamatic medical massage bed

Heard lots of mixed reviews about upgrading beds. Seen lots of different types, massaging fully adjustable to just electric adjustable ones. Big price tags on some of them, anybody taken the plunge and bought one?

What would you recommend, feedback on one if you have one would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi Annieja,

I find my adjustable bed is invaluable. Being in constant pain, I can adjust the back and the leg areas to the most comfortable position depending on how bad things are any particular night. Mine has the massage feature too, but to be honest I never use it because it just feels weird.

I bought mine second hand because I couldn’t afford a new one, but it’s been going well for over 3 years and like I say, I wouldn’t be without it.

All the best,

Will 🙂

Thanks very much Will. Would you mind me asking what make of bed you’ve opted for? Thank you

Hello Annieja, I have such a bed but I did have a small problem of mattress slipping off to spite paying top wack price. It was rectified with small side sheilds which do work but make it difficult when changing sheets. My monthly maintainance costs are almost £12 and only allows for repair if they can get the parts. the bed has thankfully remained working for the past four years no problem, it does releive pain in the muscles and loosen the joints a little. Its great for differing positions in bed and to aid getting out. My advice would be to shop around as prices are so variable as are the guality of them,I have a massage, heat, rise and reclinechair went wrong and had to go away for remederial work it came back with lesser padding in one arm and an ill fitting arm rest cover, the company has now gone into liquidation and another company has taken over the guarantee. I know it is the same firm with another name title as I checked the company records. So sadly I have had a costly experience with poor results. Take care when buying and maybe someone on the site might know a good company to recommend.

Thanks so much for your reply Katie, really appreciate it. Would you mind me asking the make of your bed and chair? Thank you

The Bed is an Ajustamatic made by Niagara who are supposed to be specialist in arthritic pain care. The chair was made by Life Comfort Products LTD of Peterborough. The bed cost nearly £5000 and the chair cost £3678 both figures are exclusive of VAT on disability grounds.

Thank you. The salesman has quoted us just short of £9000 for a bed..... the salesman also said that these beds are the only ones with medical massage. We’ve tried a tempur one which is very comfy and has a massage facility and is a fair bit cheaper. We really can’t afford it but if it’s going to make such a difference then we have to consider one. Thanks again for your responses x

There are several companies that do medical massage beds now, try a search on line, or what about your local mobility company or even a second hand one with a new matress. A brand new one is the best of course but they are mighty expensive as you can see. My freind got one cheaper than me but don't know who the company was. Good luck.

Hi Annieja ,

I've often considered financing one myself as after years of suffering , you simply can't put a price on a good nights ( or days ) sleep !

There's things on life we can't afford BUT , there's also some things in life we can't afford to NOT have.

I'm fortunate in that it was decided I'm no longer fit to drive , so what I save each month in motoring costs I can put to other uses to make life happier .

Many would say I'm wreckless thinking of money that way but the truth is , we all have days or week s at a time where we seem to be housebound .

If you can find a bed that helps , you go for it but absolutely agree about the warranty issues as being a time served engineer in my former life , I f d it frustrating that I can fix what goes wrong , but in doing so invalidate any warranty .

Choose the company carefully but go for it !

I frequently sleep on the sofa with a inch think board under the cushions , not very conducive to a healthy relationship but rather my partner sleep alone in comfort than me sleep next to,her all fidgety and agitated at pain and discomfort , then she suffers for my injuries too.

Some of the double beds woth adjustment and massage are split woth two single sides joined as one double bed.

Wonderful idea in reality as you get to sleep next to your loved one whilst independent to adjust your side to bear being in bed to,begin woth .

Enquire about installing it too though , the cottage I rent is pretty , full of character and quaint BUT I can't fit one through the door after discussing it woth the company , also Adjustamatic Beds at the time , and they fortunately realised they couldn't sell me one as it wouldn't come into the cottage no matter how they tried to,break it down .

Had they succeeded , the installation cost would have been for two men pretty much all day , huge cost implication so do your homework but best of luck x

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. The idea is still on hold at the minute, financially it’s just not an option just now, we are however saving for one.

Such a shame you can’t get one in your cottage. Completely agree that with a good nights sleep even on the worst of days it’s more bearable.

We recently bought an adjustable bed for mum. We shopped around pretty extensively and looked at a number of suppliers. We found that the companies that weren't up front with pricing charged far more than the ones that did, despite the beds being very similar. In the end we settled on an opera adjustable bed from Alpine. We got a really neat looking double bed that dad can sleep in as well. It had massage therapy, storage drawers and under-bed lighting. It came to just over £3k and was installed the week after ordering. Parents are delighted, and they've never looked back. Hope this helps, view their beds here: alpinehc.co.uk/adjustable-beds

Hi there I have an adjustamatic with all the gadgets, Cost nearly £5000 and a further £11.95 a month for maintainance if it breaks down. It does do what it says but there are minor faults like mattress slipping off, which meant I had to have side bars fitted to keep mattress in place, no annual checks like other companies and now my motors sound like the beds taking off . Sorry but I would not reccommend this item due to my experience there are other options on the market nowadays. Good luck with your search.

Hi I just noticed this is an old post from some months ago, did you get a bed eventually or decide no?

Thanks for your further replies. Still haven’t done anything as yet, going through tribunal with PIP, was hoping it would help pay towards a bed. Finally got a court date 60+ weeks since my claim. Second time through the process. Will hopefully get sorted October / November. Will have a look at alpine too

Thanks
