I have been in pain with my ankles for about 4 years now. After the pain started I went to my doctor and he said that it was my Achilles tendons that were causing the pain so i was told I had to wear ankle braces or stop playing sports. I wanted to continue playing but the pain was getting worse so I stopped playing and then the pain went away for a while. Not long after the pain started up again and so I went to a specialist and they told me that I needed to go to physical therapy and it didn't help. After that we did a MRI on both of my ankles and they came back clean. The pain has not gone away and is getting worse. They told me it could be pinched nerve so should I go see a neurologist or a pain specialist. I'm not to sure what to do at this point?

What does your GP recommend?
Sounds like a classic case of TMS, mainstream medicine hasn't gotten its head around it yet but this forum was terrific for me: tmswiki.org/forum/
Have you actually read the MRI report yourself? Sometimes doctors say everything is fine when in fact the report does show something. Also if there is some inflammation, for instance from a form of arthritis, it doesn't always show on a MRI, sometimes an ultrasound is better.
Also, have you seen a podiatrist? They are the experts at everything below the knee and they might be able to figure out what is going on better than a GP.
maybe try an osteopath, mine does wonders for unexplained pain!
Are BOTH of your ankles and feet stiff and do you have calf pains ?
Hi ,I would opt for both, I was losing feeling in my hand and was sent to neurology and they did nerve tests and found I have a trapped nerve in my elbow so now I am on a watch list if it gets worse I can have surgery. so neurology is a way to go also pain clinic ,you never know they maybe able to help or not. I find its always better to try everything it cant hurt. good luck. kevin
I’ve got same pain in ankles for few years now. Had two mri scans nothing was picked up. Finally diagnosed with arthritis. Was sent to neurology and they confirmed it is nerve pain. I take amtriptiline. Helps a bit.
Hi, I have had the same problem as you but mine was through a bad fall I had over 3 years ago. I had a break and it was never sorted out and now I have a damaged cartilage in my left ankle, I am in shocking pain which is unbearable, I can't even take painkillers because I am allergic to them, I was told that I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome because of the pain I am still having. If your doctor diagnoses that he might be able to help in some way. I definitely know how you feel, It took me years to get a diagnosis.
I think you need to see a podiatrist.
